Go Home Already: Even Penguins Get Tomorrow Off

  • In terms of headlines you just hate to read, “Forecast: Typical D.C. Summer Weather Returns” has got to be pretty high on the list. [Capital Weather Gang]
  • D.C. is the only area in the country where the percentage of obese adults actually declined in 2008. Granted, it only went down by 0.1 percent, but hey, it’s a start. Take that, Congressionally represented states! [Calorie Lab via Neatorama]
  • Top Chef alumnus Spike Mendelsohn chews the cud with Washingtonian; he likes Victor Albisu's BLT Steak, and seems poised to enter the circle of fame known as the Washington Fedora Club. [Best Bites Blog]
  • A new streetscape study for Connecticut Avenue between Farragut and Dupont recommends the insertion of new street furniture like newspaper corrals, and some pretty new landscaping for the currently barren median. [Greater Greater Washington]
  • There’s nothing more American than becoming a United States citizen close to the Fourth of July, surrounded by American history, and with a view of the Capitol Dome. [WTOP]
  • One of the best decks (and hence, best places to view the fireworks) in the city? Looks good from here. [DC Metrocentric]
  • "Using about two tablespoons of fresh, chopped herbs, I infused four three-ounce samples of Aviation Gin for 36 hours, then prepped a test Gin and Tonic for each using Fever-Tree Tonic Water, in proportions of two to one. Below are my results; consider the patent pending." [D.C. Foodies]

Insert expected, generic, and entirely justified complaint about another study pointlessly comparing DC to entire states on a topic where it's not fair comparison.

I bet a lot of urban centers had decreasing obesity rates, and I'm sure there were cities that beat DC's whopping tenth of a percent.

good on DC for putting a real median (hopefully) down connecticut ave., and on 16th street (like was mentioned in the post on saturday).

tiny american flags for pedestrians, flat tires for drivers!

Screw medians. Almost every media in DC used to have a streetcar line running down it. Lose the pointless grassy median, bring back light rail. Or a dedicated bus line.

Or strippers. Lots of strippers.

how about strippers with saddles?

everyone has to make a livin'...
