D.C.'s July 4 Fireworks in Photos

As usual, the photographers in the DCist Flickr pool got some great shots of the fireworks down at the National Mall this Independence Day. Click through our gallery to see some of the best. How many of you folks braved the rain to go watch this year?

woohoo!

Nice, but where are the pics of the fireworks that took place after the fireworks? I was on a friend's rooftop deck on Maryland Ave and I'm pretty sure the folks of NE set off more fireworks than were used for the Mall show. Quite impressive actually.

Who has pics of Vienna's lame-ass-sounding 4th of July "ooh, we're scared of fireworks" laser show? Anyone? Bueller?

Did anyone else notice the unusually high number of green fireworks this year?

I know green is the new black, but...it seemed strange to me.

do fireworks contribute to global warming?

Didn't see much since there was a black cloud blocking much of my view of them at the Pentagon.

These fireworks must have been caused when my honey and I were rubbing our cloacas together.

McGill,

Yes and no, they do produce a ton of toxic gases and CO2, but it also produces a ton sulfur dioxide which helps reflect solar radiation back into space.

Was it truly 15+ minutes of the same type of fireworks (ball/star) as these photos suggest, or were there other interesting things as well?

McGill & RJ,

Sulfur dioxide = acid rain. Besides, it's not down here at this altitude that we want the clouds.

I was up with a decent-sized crowd at the Air Force Memorial and saw nothing but the first 5 shells or so until the ominous black cloud covered the entire sky over the mall....and then it started to rain.

Jen209...yeah, noticed a lot of green. I was actually unsure when the fireworks were over because there was more green than red, white and blue. Hmm.

Can we talk about Jimmy Smits's creepy ass mustache?

bob: i figured he must have needed that 'stache for a movie he's in or something. otherwise, no self-respecting man would have that "thing" sitting on his upper lip.

I've braved the rain for the last 3 years with my lady.

It's always good fun to watch all the tourists turn around in confusion when the cannons go off.

Gets 'em every time!

FYI, if you can't get enough of fireworks & want to see some before & after July 4, visit the fire marshal website for your state. They list every jurisdiction applying for a display permit & what day, for the entire year. Using that list, I caught fireworks at Columbia CC July 1, and Argyle CC July 3...
