Reader, Meet Author

Illegal ActionMONDAY:
Stella Rimington will make an appearance at the Olsson's in Dupont Circle to talk about the new installment in her series of books about MI5 officer Liz Carlyle, Illegal Action. When it comes to mysteries and thrillers, an illegal action has to be more interesting than a legal action, right? 7 p.m.

When he isn't making creepy YouTube videos, presidential candidate Mike Gravel is writing books about the military-industrial complex and the imperial presidency. He'll be at the Busboys and Poets in D.C. to talk about his new book, A Political Odyssey. 6:30 p.m.

Benjamin Wittes, a former editorial writer for the Washington Post and a current Brookings fellow, will be at Politics and Prose to discuss his book Law and the Long War, which examines the legal battles fought by and among the Bush administration, the U.S. Congress, and the Supreme Court as part of the war on terror. 7 p.m.

TUESDAY:
Virginia Sen. Jim Webb will make an appearance at Politics and Prose to talk about his eighth book, A Time to Fight. 7 p.m.

WEDNESDAY:
Os Guinness, former executive director of the Williamsburg Charter Foundation, will be at the Newseum's First Amendment Center to participate in a discussion on The Case for Civility: And Why Our Future Depends on It. 5:30 p.m.

It's an evening of literary fiction at the Olsson's in Dupont Circle, hosted by George Pelecanos. Willy Vlautin will read from his new novel, Northline, and Ross Raisin will read from his debut novel, Out Backward. 7 p.m.

David Maraniss will be at Politics and Prose to talk about the Olympics, specifically the 1960 Olympic Games in Rome, which is not coincidentally what his book Rome 1960 is about. 7 p.m.

THURSDAY:
Naomi Klein will make an appearance at the Busboys and Poets in D.C. to sign and discuss her latest book, The Shock Doctrine: The Rise of Disaster Capitalism. 6:30 p.m.

Solveig Eggerz will be at the Olsson's in Old Town Alexandria to talk about Seal Woman, which actually isn't about a half-woman, half-seal type creature. That would be pretty awesome. 7 p.m.

FRIDAY:
D.C. DailyCandy editor Erin Hartigan will be at Olsson's in Dupont Circle to introduce The DailyCandy Lexicon: Words That Don’t Exist But Should. Words that don't exist but should? We can only think of words that exist but shouldn't, like "fierce" or "moist." 7 p.m.

If you took Fred MacMurray's 1960s sitcom, "My Three Sons", and updated it for Fox, you'd probably end up with something like the title of Bill Patten's memoir, My Three Fathers. Or maybe it would be called "My Three Fathers Want a Wife." Thankfully, Patten's book is not of the Fox variety. It's a book about searching for your identity. Politics and Prose. 7 p.m.
