Photo of the Day: July 10, 2008

How many stories can be told in a single photo?  Amidst the excitement of projectiles colorfully exploding in the sky, Flickr user dullshick captures a crowd congregated behind a fence along 13th Street NW taking in the firework festivities.  Despite the graininess of the photo, the bare light provided by the traffic signals illuminates both the facial expressions and body language of the assembled crowd.  EXIF.

I don't think the traffic signal, which is behind the subjects and is probably a 135W incandescent, could illuminate their faces.

Perhaps it's the traffic light from the opposite side of the street?

This looks like a scene straight out of the Dawn of the Dead movie.

its a very cool photo. and hey, isn't that the couple that's been popping up all over dcist for the past few days on the far left? looks like the surgeons did wonders with reattaching his head.

It's more likely the street lights. I'm just being pedantic.

vaughan: there must be some kind of contest on flickr that we don't know about for "who can be in the most pictures sure to get selected for dcist usage"
