Slurpeepocalypse @ 7-Eleven

2008_0711_slurpee.jpg7-Eleven's National Slurpee Day always seems to fall on the perfect day. Whether you're cooling down from the heat - or, in my case, in need of something cold to numb a pair of extracted wisdom teeth - celebrate 7-Eleven's 81st birthday with a free 7.11 oz. cup of your favorite Slurpee flavor. Also new this month is Black Ice, a black colored Slurpee/Monster energy drink blend. Though if you try it, prepare to walk around all day receiving significant glances due to dark colored lips and tongue.

Although stores are located ... everywhere, you may want to check with your store before heading out. Previous years have shown that area participation is hit-or-miss, but seems to be improving. A sampling of six stores showed that only one location, Logan Circle, is opting out of the giveaway, whereas the Dupont, GW, Howard, Mount Pleasant, and Kalorama Park locations are all participating.

please let me know when they're having their free pack o' smokes day.

Two summers ago I had HUGE craving for a Slurpee. I had to go to four different 7-11s to find a Slurpee machine that was working. It's just not worth it, even for a free one.

The Columbia Heights 7-11 isn't popping up on their find-a-location map. I'll still try there, though!

Yup, I always have bad luck with those machines. I used to figure they were designed to break down so you'd have to buy something else.

I went to the one at 19th & E NW (tucked under the GW dorm) expecting most of the students to be out of town. My assumptions were pretty much correct. If anybody's looking for some functioning Slurpee machines, I'm not sure how much longer they'll be functioning, but you'll find some there.

McGillicuddy,

NASCAR returns to Richmond on Sep 6 and they do, at least a few years back, give out free smokes. All you had to do was sign up for some BS and then prodcue a drivers license and *bingo* a free pack.

I stopped at the Clarendon location (on Washington Blvd) on my way to work and it was a breeze. They had the cups set up by the machines and I just filled one up and walked out. The Monster Black Ice variety is certainly fueling me through this boring Friday at work...

hah, i like to smoke, but not enough to watch f'ing NASCAR. that's a disgusting habit.

i wish they had bigger cups.
