This Week In Hip-Hop

102062787_l%5B1%5D.jpgWednesday:
>> Following in her father's footsteps, Lalah Hathaway is a singer with a great deal of soul. She'll be at Wolf Trap's Filene Center in Vienna. $25-$40, 8 p.m.

Thursday:
>> A few months back we visited the National Portrait Gallery's continuing exhibit, RECOGNIZE!. The celebration continues with a "Hip-Hop Happy Hour" at the Gallery. The happy hour itself begins at 5 p.m. but WKYS-FM (93.9) will be doing a live broadcast from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. followed by a talk with guest curator Jobyl A. Boone about artist Kehinde Wiley's portrait of Ice-T at 6 p.m. and a presentation by D.C. native Paul D. Miller (a.k.a. DJ Spooky) titled New York Is Now, which will begin in the Nan Tucker McEvoy Auditorium at 7 p.m. Free, 2 p.m.

Friday:
>> Atlanta's Anthony David has been garnering a great deal of acclaim lately, in part due to his work with neo-soul icon India.Aire. He'll be back in D.C. for a show with former Erykah Badu background singer and Dallas native N'Dambi at the Black Cat. $18, 9 p.m.

Saturday:
>> The "Capital Hip Hop Soul Fest" will take place in Marvin Gaye Park in Northeast. The Fest will feature local hip-hop and R&B acts as well as booths with representatives from various community groups and vendors selling items. Free, 11 a.m.

Sunday:
>> To list everyone performing at the "Rock The Bells" show at the Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia would take a lot of typing but here are a few names: D.C.'s own Wale, A Tribe Called Quest, and De La Soul. Did we mention Rakim and the Pharcyde will be there, too? $40-$183, 12 p.m.
