- While in Denver for the Democratic convention next month, the D.C. delegation plans to head to the U.S. Mint to pass out wooden quarters with "no taxation without representation" emblazoned on them. Sounds like the relationship between the D.C. government and the U.S. Mint isn't going to get any friendlier anytime soon. [D.C. Wire]

Posting on his blog has nothing to do with him "fighting back". Did you read his account?
"As I passed behind my the truck and was turning toward my front door, I noticed 3 African Americans in their mid-20’s had stopped their car in the middle of the street and started to approach me. The tallest of the three wearing a white tank top and khaki jeans pretended to have a pistol in his back pocket and demanded what I had in my pockets. I backed up to my doorstep refusing their request, using my bicycle as a wall (which did not help much). They came up the steps continuing to demand what I had in my pockets. After refusing again, telling them to go away and that I was at my home, I was punched in the face & body multiple times by the three and was able to fend them off by fighting back and because I was not being knocked out cold by the punches to the face. They did not steal anything from me because I refused and fought back."

After the incident, when I was giving my report to the police officer, we had a cordial discussion about the difference between the threat of having a weapon (like pretending you have it in your back pocket) and literally sicking the barrel of the gun in your mouth. I felt the threat of the gun was equal to having a gun, but I came to agree with the police officer that when you have a gun pointed at you everything changes. As I stated in my original account, had they pulled out a gun or a knife I would not have fought back. But simply demanding that you relinquish your possessions doesn't mean that you have to. I had memories that I could never duplicate and stood my ground in order save them. Crazy or not, I learned that some things in life are worth fighting for.

Now I know that if I want to shoot some gangbangers in Adams Morgan with my newly-registered handgun all I have to do is cross 17th street and it's like I have a silencer!

Stolen car. Pretty much this same thing happened to me and two friends three years ago. 3 teenagers slowly pass in an SUV, then jump out waving guns and robbed us. We called 911 and the police were there in seconds - because the same guys had already robbed 3 other groups on the same street in the past 10 minutes. We got the correct tag number for the SUV - MD plates, had been car jacked about an hour before near Greenbelt.

Shot Spotter!!! I know I "feel" more comfortable on the west side of 16th St than the east, which is totally... arbitrary I know. But why stop the shot spotter right there along the edge? And the commenter on the City Desk was right, wouldn't it be overlapping circles, not straight lines?
