The National Book Festival, which has become a flagship event for area bibliophiles, just announced its 2008 author line-up.
The festival, held rain or shine on the National Mall, will take place on Sept. 27 and once again be hosted by First Lady Laura Bush in conjunction with the Library of Congress. Retaining its inclusive tradition, the event will feature writers, readings, book and activities for readers of all ages.
This year’s line-up features over 70 writers both acclaimed and new, and includes some internationally recognized names such as Salman Rushdie and Paul Theroux; celebrity authors such as Dionne Warwick (who just knew she was going to be there, right?) and Tiki Barber (who, along with his brother, has written a couple of children’s books); Neil Gaiman is slated to be in the Teens and Children pavilion (though we suspect some older fans will happen to wander over). Local writers such as Cake Love’s Warren Brown and Washington Post columnist Michelle Singletary will be featured in the Home and Family pavilion.
For more information, including a complete list of participants, visit the Library of Congress’ 2008 National Book Festival web site.

Car Pushed Into Anacostia River By Train

since we can't comment on the vodka post below, let me be the first to say....lame.
but good on y'all for getting the $$$$.
Nice lineup. Geraldine Brooks should be good. And Phillipa Gregory? Oh my. Lady Bush might be a'blushin' if she drops in on that one. Some of Phillipa's "historical" novels are quite the hot and heavy bodice-rippers.
Awesome! Dionne Warwick! She's not bat-poop crazy at all. And Kay Bailey Hutchinson! Not only can we hear about her new book, but she can give valuable fashion tips on what kind of dresses match well with bandoleros and assault rifles!
But seriously, that's the worst lineup of authors I've ever seen.
I agree with MarketLunch! Not an impressive line up. Also minor rant but, Warren Brown should probably spend less time promoting himself and more time in his bakery kitchens. The last three visits I had to three different CakeLove shops resulted in my nearly spitting out my cupcakes (and yes they were room temp). Needless to say, I'm done with CakeLove. Warren, what happened to your tasty cakes?
pia, I've yet to have a good CakeLove cupcake, room temp or otherwise. Georgetown Cupcake FTW.
Glad Neil's coming back, although it's a couple days before his book is released (and if you want to see him plan on coming early).
I'm ok with the vodka post since I read through an RSS reader and only see the ads when the weekly roll up comes around.
Where is the list of costumed cartoon character impersonators that entertain screaming, book-hating kids while their parents are having their new cookbooks signed? What an embarrassing statement of national taste.
Can we stop this foolish fish-fry once the First School Librarian goes back to Texas?
