Moneme Out, Seales In at DDOT

D.C. Wire reports that D.C. Department of Transportation Director Emeka Moneme is leaving for a job with Metro. Moneme will become chief administrative officer of human resources, information technology and planning and development for WMATA General Manager John Catoe. Mayor Adrian Fenty has named Frank Seales Jr., general counsel for the D.C. Department of Transportation, as interim director of the agency.

seems like the last couple of interim directors of DC agencies have been automatically bumped into the director's chair permanently. any chance that we're looking at the same here?

They need to bring someone in who understands progressive engineering solutions to better make our streets compatible for cars, bikes and pedestrians.

I doubt the General Counsel is going to have such expertise.

The last thing DDOT needs is someone who focuses only on engineering solutions, no matter how progressive. What they need is someone who understands planning and policy and the fundamental role transportation choices play in the livability of the city (economics, urban design, etc etc).

Esmeralda, I think you are saying what I am advocating, but in a more eloquent way...thanks.

Yes to esmeralda and dc guy.

Can't say that the guy impressed me.
DDOT is not a well run agency, lots of roads in rubble, no real enforcement of public space trespass, inconsistent parking policies, no enforcement of bus or buke lanes, two years to get a dead tree removed, and another year to get a new one planted, months to get a traffic light replaced...

sharonc: isn't part of the problem with lights that pepco has something to do with it? if ddot is slow, pepco is running backwards...

DDOT is one of those DC agencies that really needs a thorough public audit done. So many of their projects start out fully funded, only to find the funding mysteriously unavailable when it comes time to actually do the work.
