Just days after he hit a pedestrian with his car here in D.C., conservative columnist Robert Novak has announced that he has a brain tumor. Novak's paper, the Chicago Sun-Times, reported the news earlier today.
Novak said he was diagnosed on Sunday with a brain tumor and will soon begin treatment at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston. He issued the following statement:Novak reportedly fell ill at a family gathering on Sunday, and did not know he was sick before then. On Wednesday, Novak struck 86-year-old Don Clifford Liljenquist with his car near 18th and K Streets NW. Novak did not stop until a bicyclist flagged him down to prevent him from driving away. Novak has said he did not realize he had hit someone until witnesses told him what had happened. It's too early to tell whether Novak's tumor is malignant or benign, or whether it might have influenced Wednesday's accident."On Sunday, July 27, I was diagnosed with a brain tumor. I have been admitted to Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston, where doctors will soon begin appropriate treatment.
"I will be suspending my journalistic work for an indefinite but, God willing, not too lengthy period.

get well soon, mr. novak. this city needs its prince of darkness.
Is he hoping the goodwill that Sen. Kennedy got will assuage his sins of hit-and-run and disclosing classified information?
let the insensitivity party begin in 3... 2... 1...
worst week ever?
Well, I guess that would potentially explain the not-seeing the pedestrian he just hit part. Maybe he momentarily blacked out, or his vision or motor coordination was disturbed.
As excuses for a motorist's not noticing hitting a pedestrian go, that'd be a pretty good one.
Best wishes to Mr. Novak. I hope he recovers so that I can go on disagreeing with every word he writes.
To second IMgoph: Hope you get well soon Novak, our cities hero's would have no one to fight without your villainous self. You are the joker to our batman. The dark to our light. We will miss jumping out of the way of your evil Corvette.
I will drink to Novak's smooth recovery.
You see, your honor. My client has a brain tumor and therefore he did not realize he hit a pedestrian. I respectfully request that the 50 dollar fine be refunded.
Damn it. Does this mean I have to take back that thing I said about Novak killing puppies for their blood?
Okay, so who's Two Face in this equation?
Insensitivity Party? Hardly. Call it a "See through his obvious bull****" party.
I'm sure he's got some kind of brain tumor or whatever. It doesn't excuse what he did, and given his propensity towards outright lying, I'd imagine this revelation comes only as he tries to explain himself so he doesn't have to face consequences.
the brain tumor may be on it's way to becoming to the politico set what rehab is in celebrity cirlces.
show me the MRI.
OK, sticks ... I just spit out my raspberry yogurt on that one.
Wow. Same week McCain gamed him on the VP announcement, too.
im surprised no one has chimed in with the ahnald jokes
I HAVA TOOMA
Jesus fucking christ. This is like a Soap Opera all of a sudden.
Next he'll toss a child out of a window, and suddenly get AMNESIA!! D:!!
At least he is not at risk for a tumor of the soul.
Where exactly, on the spectrum of diseases and maladies, is the line between laughing at the misfortune of a conservative d-bag who deserves what's coming to him, and suddenly turning all serious and keeping the poor soul in your prayers? If Bill Kristol announces tomorrow that he has gigantic debilitating hemorrhoids, can I still laugh at that? What if George Will has syphilis? What if said syphilis causes him to go blind? My point is, worse sh*t happens every day to people in this city who basically carry on hard-working, decent lives. I'm not going to dance on Novak's grave, but neither do I have the intestinal fortitude to send "best wishes" to such an intellectually dishonest ideologue, who also likes to go around revealing the identities of covert US intelligence agents when it suits his whims. Having said that, if George Will had syphilis, I'd probably cry.
This news does pose quite an ethical dilemma for us liberals.
Well. The George Will syphilis thing would go a long way towards explaining his overuse of one-word sentences. Now, I'm not saying his wife sucked one-too-many diseased cocks and it f***ed up his brain, but....
Sorry, I don't know how to end that sentence.
Unsurprisingly, the brain tumor is actually an undercover CIA agent.
It happens in threes:
Russert
Snow
Novak ?
Given I'm a brain tumor survivor, my response is the same as my reaction to Kennedy getting one (as I said it would be in the Kennedy thread). My hope for a speedy recovery knows no political ideology (or hit-and-runs or Chappiquiddicks), and a brain tumor is something I would not wish on my worst enemy.
I know I'm probably in the minority, though so... so be it...

"Robert Novak Announces He Has a Brain"
Sorry, that was too easy
thank you so much for tying me back into this, monkey. i appreciate it!
Does this mean Bob will be nice to Ted Kennedy now??? They have something in common to discuss over coffee...
Don't bash me, I'm a cancer survivor myself (not brain, but soft tissue cancer) It's a tough road. Bad enough dealing with tumors in my leg & lung, having one in my brain would scare the hell out of me. Sabine01, I've no idea how you got through it in one piece...
oddly coincidental timing? yes
everyone's favorite person? clearly not
reason for joking about death and illness (RJ)? i would hope not
a bid for sympathy? possibly
better than high-jacking the justice system and bribing your way out of charges of manslaughter, leaving the Kopechne family with all kinds of questions? definitely
maybe this will re-kindle the ">http://www.dailykos.com/story/2004/10/14/102647/07> George W Bush stroke conspiracy, giving him a ticket out of town, a convenient explanation and sympathetic ride into the sunset. I mean, if everyone's doing it...
Goph - The minute I read "right wing pundit" and "syphylitic cocks" I thought of your blog.
i'm touched. really.
get your filthy hands off me. :P
We may not yet know whether Novak's *tumor* is malignant or benign, but it certainly seems his character is; if so, I hope his tumor follows suit. Regarding RJ's comment, here's hoping the trend continues. Will and Kristol are certainly deserving, as are [your Fox personality here], but why not Michael Gordon and Judith Miller? or Scott "Even Pacifists Must Support This War" Simon? Given the damage folks in the allegedly-liberal side of the MSM have inflicted on our people, polity, and planet, if it takes a brain tumor to stop them, I say, "multiply, cells, multiply!" As for what God is willing regarding Novak's journalism, suffice to say that, if there's a just God in heaven, barring unknown esculpatory evidence (it was a very-long-developing brain tumor?), Novak burns in hell.
Maybe its a result of Joe Wilson pouring yellow cake in his morning coffee....I'm sorry I wish death on no one but this asshole gets no sympathy from me...He was a jackass for 60 years before the tumor, he'll be one after....
Tim the Viking 2 has it right.
After the last eight years, I feel no remorse whatsoever in mocking any fallen conservative.
Screw 'em.
