Weekly Music Agenda

MONDAY
>> If you haven't heard them by now, you should; MGMT plays 9:30 Club with the enigmatic openers Violens and Kuroma. Sadly the show has been sold out for weeks, but if you're independently wealthy you can still go. Look for a crowd composed of everyone from hipsters to Gossip Girl fans. Their big singles, "Time to Pretend" and "Electric Feel", are sure to have everyone singing along. Doors at 7, MGMT at 10.
>> For the six or seven people out there who have asked me in the past to direct them to more metal offerings, DC9 is hosting Skeletonwitch this evening, who are reportedly "writing some of the catchiest thrash available in the current metal scene." With Deathhammer and Nihilita. $8/$10, 8:30 p.m.
>> The Extra Golden move to the Black Cat's backstage from the Birchmere for a special 2-hour set. $12, 9 p.m.
TUESDAY
>> You and your faith should get ready for a very big show from George Michael this evening at the Verizon center. Tickets range from $55 to $250, but money is no object for die hard fans, right? The show starts at 8 p.m.
>> Bottles/Cans have earned their headliner status after countless opening gigs. They'll be on the Black Cat's backstage, $8, 9 p.m.
>> Okay, you've intrigued us. "Evil twee"? We may just have to hear what that means from The Airborne Toxic Event ourselves. DC9, $8/$10, 8:30 p.m.
WEDNESDAY
>> Wait, so you're telling me that George Michael and Boy George scheduled D.C. gigs in the same week? Because that would have clearly been just too much 80s awesome for one town to handle, the Boy George show has been canceled (actually, it wasthanks to Visa problems). You can get refunds at your place of purchase. As for assuaging your broken heart, we don't have any advice at this time.
>> Like U2, but a darker roast? Or maybe The Used with slightly less screaming? Try NYC's Ours with God or Julie at the donations!). 7:15 p.m.
>> Three Stars alum and D.C.'s preeminent '60s garage rock band, The Hall Monitors, are taking to the hallowed 9:30 Club stage to open for Southern Culture on the Skids. 7:30 p.m., $15
FRIDAY
>> Well, crap. I didn't buy tickets in time, and now Bon Iver's show at the Black Cat with Bowerbirds is sold out. Perhaps I can ease the pain with a night of really great local music at the Rock and Roll Hotel, courtesy of Olivia and the Housemates, Meredith Bragg, Justin Jones & the Driving Rain and Andy Zipf. $10, 8:30 p.m.
SATURDAY
>> High energy rock that's slightly immature but in a fun way reigns supreme at the Black Cat this Saturday, courtesy of We Are Scientists, Oxford Collapse and Apache Beat. $15, 9 p.m.
>> There are plenty of reasons to love Aimee Mann. Just consult our interview with her from January or... anything she's ever recorded to find one for yourself, and get to the 9:30 Club to see her perform this weekend with The Submarines. $35, 8 p.m.
SUNDAY
>> Based on studies conducted over the course of several recent road trips, I have found conclusive evidence that modern rock radio really loves the Flobots. I kind of think they're lacking actual flow. Be the judge for yourself as they visit the 9:30 Club this weekend. $15, 7 p.m.
>> Catch members of the D Plan and Hellfighters unite under the moniker Poor But Sexy at DC9. They'll be debuting some new songs, so it'll be a fine way to round out your weekend. $8, 8 p.m.
