Awkward/Sad/Funny Typo from Novak AP story on NYTimes.com

2008_0804_nytimes.jpg

They've already fixed it, but the error above in the Associated Press story about Robert Novak's immediate retirement was live on The New York Times web site for a short time earlier this afternoon. Yikes! The conservative columnist may be widely known as the "Prince of Darkness," but brain tumors are certainly no laughing matter. Except, it turns out, when they lead to mistakes like this. Too soon?

Follow the yellow brick road, Bob, follow the yellow brick road. At the end, you might find a brain, AND a heart, AND some courage.

It would probably be best for all if the tumor gets him soon. Maybe let the racist homophobe live long enough to see a D elected and then sh!t the bed. Brain tumor or not the guy is a dick and deserves what he gets.

"He announced last month he has a brain." There goes The New York Times again. Publishing stories without first checking the facts!

damn librul media!

Lighten up. Brain cancer? And hit-and-run? Comedy gold, Jerry. All this story needs is some Red Lectroids from Planet 10 and a stolen oscillation overthruster.

Who doesn't announce they have a brain a week after you drive over a pedestrian?

It's never too soon...when it's about a Republican. I made a mean spirited comment when it came out about Kennedy's tumor and everyone jumped down my cornhole. I strongly doubt we'll see any vitriol here. The disparity is pretty amazing actually.

i don't know Novak personally, but i do know that if you own a Corvette, it's entirely possible that you are missing a brain. this guy should clearly be driving a Chrysler 300 or a Cadillac STS to match his evil image.

The disparity is pretty amazing actually.

Not really. Novak is a total a**hole, whereas Kennedy is merely a drunk who can't get a skank across a bridge.

Considering it's never "too soon" for the other side of the aisle, I consider this all fair game.

@Sordid: Damn right. But it's not because he's a Republican, it's because he's a douchebag.

Seriously?!
Get over yourself. Yes, the guy is a dick and has done/said some pretty awful stuff. However wishing the painful death that a brain tumor can incur is heartless. And really, what is the difference between being a racist homophobe and a heartless, high on yourself jack ass?

Check the comments on the brain tumor announcement -- I called this one!

Depends on how well you're column is syndicated.

I'm with old city, eff Novak and his ilk. It all most makes you believe in karmic justice. I only hope his demise is slow and painful like Reagan's.

Wow. I tried to start off the comment section with a nice, whimsical Wizard of Oz reference, and now it has come to this?

I doubt that was a typo.
Well played, NYT, well played.

I loathe Bob Novak but wouldn't wish him (or anyone, for that matter) a brain tumor. Despite the severity of the news, I did laugh. A lot.

Thank you by2112!

I mean, I laughed too, it's funny...

I doubt he'll find any of these, but maybe he'll get a nice pair of sparkly shoes out of the deal.

Novak is a Douchebag of Liberty, but brain cancer is a bitch. So in the absence of more heartfelt thoughts, I wish him some sparkly shoes for his journey.

Why are there no paragraph breaks in this column. http://townhall.com/columnists/RobertDNovak/2002/04/05/terrapin_fever FREDTERP

FREDTERP=NOVAK?

i report, you decide

There aren't any breaks in that story b/c right wingers haven't figured out the spacebar actually works. It's the only button without words on it, so it must do nothing.

He may be racist and he may be a homophobe, but he's not a quitter.

Well, I guess now he's a quitter. But you know what I'm trying to say here.

Well, let's see. Novak actively supported and propped up a regime that was stunningly hostile to gay men during the onset of the AIDS crisis, denying funding and education efforts nationwide. So he did less than nothing while countless Americans (and others) suffered through AIDS.

Does that mean I gloat when he's down? No. But it's hard for me to gin up sympathy for a douchebag that was a power player through decades of ignoring suffering by others because he didn't like them.

Like the gays, Novak made a deliberate "lifestyle choice" in using his brain. Now he gets to reap what he sows. Had he listed to Christian evangelicals, he would not be in this situation.

GOD HATES BRAINS.

"The disparity is pretty amazing actually."

Not really, it's just that everyone thinks that republicans suck.

Can't say I have much sympathy for one so devoid of journalistic integrity and general ethics as Robert Novak. His family is another matter, though, they didn't choose the schmuck.

ROFL @ Monkeyrotica.
