The Bowerbirds have a really spectacular sound, so it's too bad no one listened. I first heard them at a friend's party in a back yard in North Carolina, and was completely blown away. Maybe it's just that they blended so naturally with the sunset and sound of crickets. If you're at all interested, I highly recommend checking them out on vinyl—Hymns for a Dark Horse—you won't be disappointed.

I was also disappointed with the show but blame it on the sound mixer who seemed to have no idea what he was doing. The instruments were too loud and there was feedback whenever the music got loud or hit the higher pitches.

I was pretty disappointed with the concert. I couldn't hear them playing "as though Vernon has come to terms with the events surrounding their genesis." It, instead, sounded like a young band who was trying to find a way to play their mellow songs live. I am a huge fan of For Emma, Forever Ago and I felt like Vernon ripped apart the integrity of his music by rearranging the songs in such a formulaic and boring way. It was like they played the first half of each song straight and then went into a crappy uninteresting U2esque jam session then finished out the song. The only reason I didn't leave was because I was waiting for something better. It didn't come. I wanted to hear Vernon's haunting vocals but instead we got a standard concert from a mediocre rock band devoid of emotion.

At the time, I thought it was a cover. He said something about running out of Bon Iver songs. I busted my butt to try to figure out what it was but couldn't find it. If anyone knows, drop us a line.
