Now this is a fun summertime shot. Flickr user Karon found these dancers moving to the tunes of the brass band in Dupont. Is this a bunch of folks who just happened to stop and enjoy the music, or is it a coordinated group who meet for some evening entertainment? More importantly, how grossed out should we be by the two center girls not wearing any shoes? EXIF.

"More importantly, how grossed out should we be by the two center girls not wearing any shoes?"
That depends on where the nearest 'no pissing' sign is.

Pffft. There's hardly any urine in Dupont anymore. I blame the gays. They're a very clean people.
Now, if you want urine, come on down to Vermont and Florida, aka "Pee Street North" or, as the real estate crowd are calling it, "the vibrant NoPee neighborhood."

Damn hippies.

You should also check out H St. A couple of years ago I saw a woman get out of an SUV, drop trou on the sidewalk and use the innovative technique of bending forward at the waist to urinate at 2pm on a Saturday afternoon.
Two things amazed me about this incident. The first was that no one (except for the woman walking down the street with a 6 year old boy) seemed to think this was the slightest bit remarkable or unusual. The second was that after finishing, the woman sat down in the truck and very daintily wiped off her boots with a couple of napkins.

Are they Dancing for Donuts?

I'll dance for donuts but only if they're hot.

I saw them playing in Dupont late last year. I would love to know who the band is...they are really awesome, and a crowd always shows up and gets excited.

The donuts or the dancers?

Duckster, these brass bands are affiliated w/the United House of Prayer For All People & there are actually 3 church bands that play in the area: the Madison Livelystones, the Sounds of Deliverance, & the Kings of Harmony.

HR - Any homeless person will tell you that the classic urban evacuatory pose involves locating a pair of tall parked cars with enough space between to offer "handicapped stall" style bumper support while you "release the Kaiser." I have personally witnessed this practice in Penn Quarter next to the National Portrait Gallery on a lazy Sunday afternoon. Something about all those dead presidents really relaxes you down there.
And by "tell" I mean "scream incoherently at their shoes."

omg, that's awesome.
barefeet in dupont? I had an NYC friend visiting, and walking barefoot who said "I do this all the time" and then--as if by providence--looked down to see a dead rat on the sidewalk by 17th and Mass.
good times.
hillrat, you almost out monkeyerotica'd monkey erotica. no easy feat, that.

Dude, you just made my week!!

Girls, going barefoot is so OVER! Britney Spears was doing it (exiting a gas station restroom, no less) about 3 years ago.
I see bare feet as the next step downward for women who constantly say, "I could LIVE in my flipflops!" and refuse to wear actual SHOES.

So long as they weren't planning on eating food off each other's bare feet after, I have no problem with it.
[ report this ]
wait, aren't all women supposed to be barefoot?

I love people having good wild fun in D.C.
No Shooting or rocks being thrown this time.
Just good old fashion Brass band music.
Good times. Good times.

No shrimping going on that night. That's for goddamned sure. Ain't enough Tilex in the world to get them puppies clean.

It astonishes me how many people I see walking barefoot, not including street people. Most street people have newer shoes than me.
O, you know, most of the bare footers I see are in Dupont, it’s certainly not a downtown thing.

oh, and the rat was inches from her feets... sorry forgot that part as I was wrapped in my own little world
oh, hillrat, no prob. but i said almost. still, you made me laugh.

actually, Disco Stu, i believe that was on 18th and Mass. ;)

It was all spontaneous. I was walking from Dupont to Farragut West when I saw the band setting up. They are always fun so I stuck around. Three girls all dressed up walked up and two kicked off their shoes and started swing dancing to the music. The band member that was passing around the bucket and selling CDs was encouraging more people to come out and dance. There was a crowd of over 50 people hanging out on that corner by the Krispy Kreme by the time I left.

It was south of Mass before the Korean Dry Cleaners, ahark
[ report this ]
oh, crap, that's totally 18th.
[ report this ]
Disco Stu: you sure it wasn't on 18th just past Luna? unless your NYC friend story and my NYC friend story are not in fact the same NYC friend story... possible, i suppose. poor Natalie was never the same, but she did put her flip-flops back on.
[ report this ]
See? Told you I was off in my own little world. Who can tell with so many dead rat stories? Between Luna and the dry cleaners.
Anyway, that Brass Band is the bomb.

They probably took their shoes off because they hurt. But shoes don't hurt as much as HEPATITIS!
