Citywide Crime Meeting Tonight
Community organizers from the 5th District Citizens' Advisory Council, the Ward 4 Education Council, the Eastland Gardens Civic Association, the Council of Churches of Greater Washington-Social Action Committee, and the DC Federation of Civic Associations have put together something they're calling a "City-Wide Community Meeting on Crime" tonight from 7 p.m. to 8:45 p.m. They're urging residents from all over the city to come together to "stand up and speak out," and say they've invited Mayor Fenty, Chief Lanier, and members of the D.C. Council to the gathering. We predict maybe one Council member will show up out of all those invites, but if you're looking for an opportunity to share your experiences with crime in the city and meet other neighborhood activists, this seems like a fine one. At the Old D.C. Council Chambers at 441 4th Street NW, First Floor, South.

Let me guess what the community organizers will suggest: More money, more money, and more money.
Things they won't suggest: More police, tougher sentencing, snitchin', end to out of wedlock births, anything that requires a culture change, etc.

For a minute there, I thought they were going to have a big meeting of the criminals. Which would be totally cool. Imagine a SMERSH-style bunker meeting with Dr. No, Auric Goldfinger, and Le Chiffre, except with Thugee Fresh of the P Street Crew, Lil Stank, Ray-Ray, Propecia, and Sinutab. Wait until Poverty Pimp and Touchy Feely Liberal get word of this thug brain trust. They'll sneak in through the air ducts for an ambush and settle the score. Smell that? It's the smell of freedom. Freedom from crime and tyranny. This town belongs to PP.

Thats a lot of houses with no one in them tonight. Nothing like getting robbed while you're at the neighborhood watch meeting.

I'm not saying the city is doing everything right, but where does the magic money come from? It's not like the police, social service agencies, housing agencies, etc are just sitting around with millions thinking, "wow! I didn't realize we had need in this city - thank goodness those good, self-effacing advocates let me know about that...I suppose we'll use some of that money now."
Wouldn't it make more sense to find solutions that get the agencies more money - instead of complaining that they don't spend what they don't have on one specific issue?
