King Street Fresh Farmers' Market Opens

The Upper King Street Neighborhood Association launched its Fresh Farmers' Market (not to be confused with the FreshFarm markets) yesterday in King Street Garden Park (across from the King Street Metro).  The market primarily features produce grown by local farmers (sworn to be homegrown (PDF)), as well as fresh flowers and canned dips/spreads (pumpkin pie spread, black bean/hot pepper dips).  Despite a small number of vendors, the market provides residents, visitors, and commuters an opportunity to pick up fresh fruit and vegetables on a Wednesday afternoon.  The market runs every Wednesday until October 29th, 3-7 p.m., rain or shine.

Did I click on Alexandria-ist this morning by mistake? Shoot... meant to go to DCist...

That gets so old after the one millionth time.

This, I suppose, is a reasonably germane post to ask: anyone know where to find really good eatin' pumpkins around here? Groceries don't have them yet, but they're growing out there, somewhere, and some farmer's market has got to have them.

It's getting close to pumpkin ale time.

Maybe no_more_caffeine was being ironic. Maybe he was trying to preemptively shut down that moronic yet inevitable reply. Maybe he was being fresh by being stale. And I for one applaud him for it.

So glad to hear about this but it's too bad that so many residents will miss out on this opportunity because they work in DC.

Pre-1849, all of Arlington County and most of Alexandria City were within the boundaries of the District.

So anti-suburban snobbery aside, 160 years ago this would have been perfectly appropriate fodder for DCist.

So there.

ESkinner: Those of us who work near the King Street Metro, however, are pleased.

There's also a farmer's market in front of Alexandria City Hall on Saturday mornings.
