While the dog days of summer can mean long lulls at local galleries, Flickr user RSchley brings us this lovely reminder that you can still get your art fix at area museums. The American Art Museum is home to Nam June Paik's Electronic Superhighway exhibit, a behemoth video installation with bright neon lights and movie clips meant to convey our connection to both our sprawling countryside and infinite new media. Check out the August Museum Round Up for a list of other potential museum outings including exhibits and events. EXIF.

Love that installation . . . I think I spent almost as long looking at it as I did viewing nearly the entire Portrait Gallery. The state-by-state images are a little cliched, but the overall effect comes across as insightful rather than cheezy.

I particularly enjoy the interactive quality of Paik's piece where Washington, DC is represented by a live video feed of patrons looking at the artwork itself. Clever.
The new Jenny Holzer down the hall is also a nice addition to the SAAM collection.
But, IMHO, Low Rez / Hi Fi remains the best (interative) public artwork that the District has to offer!
