Roddick Bounced From Legg Mason

21 minutes. That's how long it took top seeded Andy Roddick to win the first set from unheralded Serbian Viktor Troicki. Roddick's fall from grace, however, lasted a bit longer. Troicki found his game soon after, breaking Roddick's massive serve twice in the second set and continually frustrating the top seed with his off pace ground strokes, taking the final two sets for a 0-6, 6-2, 6-4. win. Roddick seemed confused as to what to do when his forehand was no longer blowing Troicki off the court. His confidence shaken, he started dumping groundstrokes into the net with regularity and became visibly frustrated.

A 57-minute rain delay helped him regain some of his composure, but Troicki would not be denied. He broke Roddick's serve again at 3-3 in the decisive third set and did not look back. "I was sloppy," Roddick said after the match. "I double-faulted I don't know how many times this week and I rarely double-fault. That's unacceptable."

Local fave John Isner also lost yesterday. Wunderkind Juan Martín del Potro beat Isner 6-4, 6-4 to win his 17th straight ATP match. He will face Tommy Haas in today's first semi-final. Troicki takes on Igor Kunitsyn in the night match. Kunitsyn beat qualifier, and former Virginia Cavalier, Somdev Dev Varman in last night's nightcap.

Given all the upsets in the men's singles draw in the Olympics, and this result, I wonder how much Andy's regretting his decision to stick with the Legg Mason this year? I'm guessing the big fat check will help him get over it, but still . . .
