They have rebuilt their fortress at The Guards from which to launch an assault against Ward 1. Their douchiness cannot be contained to Local 16 or Sequoia. We must join with the LNS douches, Gandalf. Local 16 is only laid back up until about 10:30 Friday/Saturday/Sunday where it becomes douche central and impossible to hear anyone or walk around upstairs. Real hipsters are all at the Red Derby now.

Ah the H word, the lameness of its clichéd articulation screams “I was a geek in high school.” First off; there are no hipsters in DC, hipsters (i.e. trendy, somewhat vain, more aesthetically focused people, into rarified music, blah, blah) because those people immediately MOVE to a city that is trendy, and perhaps stylish (i.e. NYC, LA, PDX, hell just pick a city with more than 50K people and it has more style cred). By default any person spending more than 48 hours in the DC metro area (other than visiting family- which is exempt) is by definition not trendy, and therefore not a hipster. A hipster in DC would be a like a Fulbright Scholar in Hogansville Georgia- suicidal. Besides if there were hipsters in DC--@ Local 16? Listening to Top 40 hits? Apparently Haven Thompson has the pop-culture social anthropology skills of my grandmother. He is such a tard that any person NOT wearing a polo-shirt and wrap-around-sport shades at the same time is a hipster.

The one time I went to Local 16 is was full of dudes wearing polo shirts with popped collars sipping $6 Miller Lites trying to hit on girls who were so drunk they could hardly stand if it wasn't for being backed shoulder to shoulder with the rest of the bar patrons. I haven't been back and don't intend to on a weekend.

The soccer stadium is part of Barry's youth violence initiative. The idea being, if they're playing soccer, they're not shooting eachother. Soccer's also great for building strong, delicious muscles and healthy, robust organs that require only the minimum of preparation. Perhaps a quick pan sear and a deglaze with white wine, a side of fava beans, and a nice chianti. Why Barry doesn't have his own cooking program, I'll never know.

How does Marion "Donner Party, table for one" Barry square his fight against The Plan with his advocacy of a soccer stadium in Ward 8? On these shores, soccer is a pretty damn White sport. He might as well be advocating for a squash court on every block. 14th and U, I'm glad you've found a niche at Local 16, but my experience with the place has been that it's overwhelmed with the vast unclean masses of lawyers, law students, and professionals taking LSAT courses on the side.

If you were there two weekends ago, you'd have found me and the Mrs.--neither one of us lawyers--downing some pints at the bar and chatting up Wilmot the bartender, who is a heckuva nice guy. In fact, I find the vibe at the bar at Local 16 one of the most laid-back and unpretentious in DC. Not getting the hate for it here...

ThomasCircle, I was getting fall down drunk in the basement of the Guards when you were still in short pants. I even remember when there was a phone by the alley entrance that you could call Medocino and get them to make you a Geppetto's Pizza.
