EveryBlock Launches D.C. Version
The hyper-local news and neighborhood information aggregation site EveryBlock launched its D.C. version this week. Enter your address, ZIP, or neighborhood into the search function and turn up everything from blog posts and photos by your neighbors, a map and description of recent nearby crime, real estate listings, relevant local news stories, and public calendar postings. Basically they've taken all the D.C. government's live data feeds and added in RSS for everything else local they could find, and bundled it all together in an attractive package. Take a look around and tell us what you find.

I entered my lovely arlington zip code 22209 and got the message LOUD AND CLEAR, EveryBlock, thank you "This may be a suburban or otherwise non-Washington ZIP" - I hear the disdain.
EveryBlock drank the haterade.

Well, that's kinda boring (for "R.L.A. (SW)" - whatever the heck that's supposed to mean). Lots of crime reports, lots of reports of calls for city services, and a couple pictures of the fish market. *yawns*

Great. Now I have proof that my zip code is the lamest in the city.

love it -- and glad to see suburbanites get dissed, as well they should... ;-)

Oh my god. I'm hooked. It's my new crack.

This is a laff riot! I typed in my old ZIP Code and was instantly reminded of why I don't live there anymore:
-Neighborhood meeting on shooting
-Terrible Shooting at 14th and Fairmont
-Summer Restaurant Death Reel
-Police Searching for bank robber
-FREE YOGA LESSONS!
-21 Crime Listings
-43 Calls for City Services
God forbid they ever get a bridge-and-tunnel version. There'd be nothing there to post except, "Area White Man Enjoys, Causes The Blues".

Yeah monkey, I totally feel you. Those monsters have been treading into my neighborhood terrorizing us with their free yoga lessons. I swear to god, if I get stopped in a dark alley with another gratis instruction on the downward facing dog, I'm going to move to Mannasas. At least they know how to charge for shit out there.

This is an AWESOME tool for my stalking hobby. Thanks, DCist!

Yeah, I got yr "downward dog" RIGHT HERE, buddy.
[Points at dog doing yoga.]

Now I remember why I don't have a car. Almost all of the listings for my 'hood are about "theft from unoccupied vehicle".

I'll give them props for quick response - I fired off an email to get them to change "R.L.A. (SW)" to "Southwest Waterfront" and they changed it within an hour. Not bad.

Could you get them to change NOMA to Swampoodle?

Disappointed that even the violent felonies on the chart didn't come complete with narratives -- curious if this is random violence or just a family that runs around the neighborhood knifing each other.

Ah hell. . . My zip code lies all of a block from DC, but they won't cover it[0]. So, I typed in the zip for the District side, and realized that. . .
Friendship Heights is pretty damned boring on either side of Western Avenue. Ohhh, someone voted for Chadwick's on Yelp again.

[0] Yes, I live in the 'burbs, but I'm on the metro, and can walk into the city. All the benefits, and I get to vote. Wheee!

@Hillman:
Looks like someone did their magic. . .
