Breakfast with the D.C. Delegation at the DNC
The District of Columbia's delegates to the Democratic National Convention gathered early this morning at the Crowne Plaza hotel in downtown Denver for a collegial breakfast before heading out to lobby other delegations to support voting rights for D.C.
Though they were far from home, some of the recent drama surrounding the D.C. Democratic Party did make an appearance. D.C. Wire has published rumors of a "feud" between D.C. Democratic Party Chair Anita Bonds and Mayor Adrian Fenty, but Bonds insisted that they "are not feuding."
"There is no truth to that," Bonds reiterated while inviting Fenty political adviser John Falcicchio up to the podium with her. She then planted a kiss on his cheek to make her point that much more clear.
In-fighting between Obama supporters who are new to the party and longtime local Democratic activists looking to hang on to their leadership positions has also become public over the last month, and Bonds took the opportunity to ask that the delegation not let that divide affect their work at the convention.
"If we could just lay down our swords while we're here," pleaded Bonds.
D.C. Delegate Eleanor Holmes Norton also addressed the gathering, giving them a preview of her convention floor speech planned for 5:15 p.m. Eastern time on Tuesday. She said she plans to call for a "war to get the vote."
Among the others who attended the breakfast were Ilir Zherka and Eugene Kinlow from DC Vote, delegate and Ward 8 Council member Marion Barry, Shadow Senators Paul Strauss and Michael Brown, and delegate and CNN political analyst Donna Brazile.

Ugh, I wasn't fast enough with my camera to catch it. No one is sadder about that than me.

She said plans to call for a "war to get the vote."
Whoa. Since when did Norton come out against the gun ban?
Oh, I get it. She means some nebulous, metaphorical, cruelty-free "war" for voting rights. Like the "war" on drugs or the "war" on terror or the "war" on poverty.
I predict an equal level of success for the "war for the vote." Get back to me when members of the Downtown Cluster of Congregations start immolating themselves. I'll bring the smores.

Who's the woman with the massive hat in the second photo?
I thought Barbara Bullock was in jail? And even if it isn't her, she oughtta be in jail for that hat. Only one place that hat belongs: in a church. And you'd best be praying for a new hat.

LOL! Norton did not call for a war. She referred to the Revolutionary War by saying that Americans and DC residents went to war for the right to vote.
