Lettuce-pocalypse with Chop't

We challenged companies for more free stuff. And then they come back with this. Free salad and free salad sandwiches. It's healthier, but you can't help but be just a teensy bit disappointed. Where are our free slabs of bacon? Or our free pints of ice cream? Or free beers? They kept upping the ante, and now the drop. Does this signal the end of summer?

Then again who are we to decry free food? Stop by the new Chop't location in Metro Center from 11 11:30am to 2pm at 618 12th St., NW for your fill of rabbit food. Co-founders Tony Shure and Colin McCabe will be on hand for the festivities.

Wow, another takeout salad and sandwich joint. Aren't there something like 50 other places that use the exact same formula?

The trick with Chopt and the other salad joints is to steer clear of the "premium" meat and cheese ad-ons. Otherwise, your $6 salad quickly escalates to $10+. Also, you need to tell them to go easy on the chopping, otherwise you end up with something that's the consistency of shredded newspaper.

If you want to go, I highly recommend going and getting in line now. I went to their Lettucapocalypse when the Gallery Place location opened at 11:15 and it took us an hour to get through the line. Everything's free though - as many extras as you want. It was a really good salad.

Yeah, salad shops seem to be popping up like dandelions, which they really need to start serving as well. And, yes, "you don't win friends with salad." But DC has never been about winning friends so much as cultivating frenemies. Isn't that what LNS is all about?

The free salads actually start at 11:30 and not at 11. The press release is wrong. The confusion should make salad-pocalypse even more crazy when all the lettuce-starved masses realize they have to stand in line.

Yes, but did the salad "knock your socks off?" Because I only eat salads that blow my mind, my wallet, and my colon.

"You don't win friends with salad!"

Well, except veggie friends... so maybe you do...

Wrong time posted? Equals crazed slavering chlorophiles! Film at 11.

free is to people what flame is to moth

Is there even one other place that uses the same formula as Chopt?

You're smoking crack if you count Chop't as healthy. Their Southwest salad makes me feel like I ate a bowling ball made of solid dressing.

In addition to Chopt, there's Sweetgreen, High Noon, Saladworks and I believe the unfortunately named Tossed salad franchise is supposed to open in DC soon.

mojotron is right - where else can i get a thousand choppings to make the perfect salad and have them chop it up for me into edible delicious bits? nowhere, that's where.

Can we drop the whole -pocalyse thing already?

-pocalypse...sigh...

Dumbek, are you suggesting a dropocalypse?

I haven't been to a salad lunch place in DC that I've liked; I'll have to keep this in mind. They should open up in Old Town.

Cookie pusspocalypse?

Just came back. The line's already down the block and around the corner. Save yourselves!!!!

erin_m with the 11:30am disinfo to keep folks from getting in line ahead of her :)

Good salad for free. Not sure I would pay the $15 it would actually cost me. They are a few dollars over-priced.

:) The plot failed anyway. Looks like they realized the press release had the wrong time and decided to open early. Either way, I abandoned the delicious, delicious salad and went down the street to Devon and Blakely, which, like every other restaurant in the neighborhood, is completely deserted today.

Man, and I thought Cosi was expensive.

Can we go with the "-ageddon" suffix, just to mix things up? "-gotterdammerun" might work well here, too. Either that or go all Norse and opt for "Ragnarok."

I like the sound of Lettugeddon for this post. Sounds like a Finish metal band.

We need to check in with the Four Horsemen of the Dropocalypse before switching to Lettugeddon, sorry.

I really love chopt. Even if there's a long line, it goes pretty fast. Most salads cost between $8-$9 and there's a ton of unique dressings to choose from. Plus, if you get the chop't card, when you buy 10, the 11th is free. So take off approx 10% from your purchase to get a 'true' price. These salads are much better and filling than a Cosi salad and much easier to eat.

"rabbit food"

HA

I hope some day there's a free apple day in town. Then we can read about "ap-ocalypse" here.
