DC Vote just sent around an email to all their supporters to remind them of their planned event outside the U.S. Mint in downtown Denver. The rally (protest? gathering?) is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Wednesday morning. From the announcement:

We will host a peaceful rally outside the Denver Mint and pass out wooden coins to the public because the mint rejected the DC government's request to imprint the words "taxation without representation" on DC's quarters and because…

"American democracy isn't worth a wooden nickel without a vote in Congress!"

D.C. Wire reported on Monday that the event's organizers were running into a little trouble getting the appropriate permit from the city of Denver, and DC Vote Outreach Director Eugene Kinlow told DCist Tuesday evening that they never did acquire one. He didn't seem overly concerned, however, since he personally touched base with a member of the Denver city government about it on Monday, and the U.S. Mint is actually kind of out of the way in terms of the main convention-related action going on downtown -- he doubts it will get too crazy, in other words. DC Vote volunteers don't plan to try to enter the Mint, just stand outside and try to talk to people who pass by as they pass out the wooden "nickels."

D.C. Council Chair Vincent Gray has confirmed that he will attend the rally, so if any trouble does occur, hopefully he can use his renowned powers of persuasion to convince the police to let the voting rights activists be.
