About Tonight

Abouttonight0828.jpg

SPORTS: The Redskins get their final walkthrough of the seemingly endless NFL preseason tonight, hosting the Jacksonville Jaguars at FedEx Field. Former defensive coordinator and one-time head coach to-be Gregg Williams makes his return to D.C. The starters figure to get one or two series, but the back ups will spend much of the game fighting for roster spots. Kickoff is at 7 p.m. but plan for a long trip out to the stadium because the shuttle between the Landover rail station on the Orange Line and Fed-Ex isn't running.

RELATED: Speaking of The 'Skins, our former team correspondent is doing more important things these days, like vlogging with Ana Marie Cox, so DCist is looking for someone to cover the team on a weekly basis. If you're interested in the position, drop me a line.

MUSIC: It's a testament to Exile in Guyville that it gets as much lavish praise today as it did way back in 1993. Liz Phair is at the 930 Club playing the album in its entirety tonight, but be warned, the reviews of her Chicago show were fairly tepid. Sold out.

COMEDY: Former Insomniac and current Gong Show host Dave Attell is at the DC Improv Comedy Club. 8:30 p.m., $30.

MUSIC + FILM: Oops! We were going to recommend the percussion group Batala playing directly before the 8:30 p.m. screening of "Die Another Day," hosted by the NoMa Business Improvement District, but we just got word this event is canceled due to rain.

DISCUSSION + DJ: The Modernist Society hosts USA Today's Pop Candy writer Whitney Matheson, who will be making her DJing debut tonight after an interview and Q&A session. Bourbon, 2321 18th St. NW, 8 p.m., free.

DNC: For many of you, tonight's all about Obama. Washingtonian has a round up of bars where you can watch the Democratic Presidential Candidate give his speech tonight in case you won't be couch surfing.
