Rumors have been circulating for the last month, and today promising local band Georgie James made it official by posting a notice on their web site that the band is breaking up.
After three years, Georgie James is calling it a day. We're proud of the album we made and everything else that we were able to do during our time together. We are both working on our respective solo projects (John's can be found at www.myspace.com/titletracksdc and Laura's at www.myspace.com/lauraburhenn) and hope to have albums out early next year. Thanks to everyone that helped our band over these past few years. And thanks to those who've listened to the music and come out to the shows. It is greatly appreciated. See you around soon. - John and Laura/Georgie JamesThis is really sad news for us here at DCist. Georgie James headlined one of our best Unbuckled concerts ever, have been featured as a Three Stars band and in numerous other DCist stories. Not to mention, after their signing to Saddle Creek Records and recent Emmy nomination, the '70s dance-inspired group topped the list of D.C. bands destined for big things. We wish John, Laura and the rest of the band the best of luck in their future endeavors, and are keeping our fingers crossed they'll at least consider putting on a farewell show.

heh, just saw their album in the record store next door to st. ex yesterday. was thinking it might be interesting to actually see them live. oh well.
this makes me sad. i loved 'places.' at least i can still get my john davis fix on xm.
Serves them right, what with neither one of them being called "Georgie" or "James". Things never work out for such misleadingly titled bands. There was no Lynyrd in Skynyrd; and thus God smote them. No Hootie nor Blowfish; thus they were punished by being a bar-band that sold millions of records, made videos with Dan Marino, and eventually faded away into the mists of the late-90s to count their money. Wait a minute...
Just was watching the "Project Song" video that they made for NPR and man, you could see a break-up coming in the first two minutes of that video - just listen to them bicker while selecting the inspiration for the song they were about to write.
Reid: You forgot the resurrection as a Burger King pitchman (though that was only "Hootie").
Breaking up never goes out of style in DC.
Reid, what about Pink Floyd?
which one's pink?
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
This sucks...but keep in mind there can't be a reunion tour without a breakup. But for now, I'm with Sommer hoping for a farewell show...or a goodbye Cake Parade.
And don't forget Jethro Tull.
But yeah, what was the deal with that name? Was Georgie James their gym teacher in high school?
