Morning Roundup: Crazy Eights Edition
Good morning, Washington, and welcome to 8/8/08, the date chosen for the official start of the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing. This confluence of 8s should of course not be confused with 8/8/88, the date on which soldiers murdered over 2000 peaceful protesters in Burma, and the Chicago Cubs played their first night game at Wrigley Field. So for 8/8/08, we have some good news and some bad news. The good news is that the weather is incredibly nice for this point in August. It's only going to get up to the low 80s today, and it's going to continue like that for the next several days. The bad news is that beyond tonight's four and a half hour Opening Ceremony, there's not much else Olympic to recommend to those of you dying for the games to get underway. ESPN will have some badminton and fencing action tonight, but other than that, you'll have to wait until tomorrow to see any actual competition (try out NBC's customized TV schedule to see what you'll be able to watch depending on what kind of cable you have).
