Notice it's always the foreign sounding hurricanes that are the worst: Katrina, Ivan, Gustav, Hugo, Camille. Nobody remembers the All-American Hurricanes like Shemp, Curly Joe, or Moe. Foreign hatred of America manifests itself in bad weather conditions. All the more reason for the CIA to invest more in weather control and Reichian cloud-busting technologies. We cannot allow a hurricane gap! Maybe!

Actually MikeB, you should wait until Friday night, when the storm is just about the hit to do your shopping. That way you can shove and push people out of the way to get to that last loaf of bread that looks like it has been sat on and get some Tab soda since every other flavor is gone. If you do it now, you will look silly loading up your cart with bread, soda and chips. Maybe!

KrazyKat, that's why I asked. See that's standard operating procedure around here for the local news when there's a threat of just 1 inch of snow. Sometimes less. But it's been a while since we've had to deal with hurricane leftovers. I just need to make sure I'm following correct guidelines.

Everyone should get to the Safeway tonight to pick up bread, soda and chips. Having grown up in the cold, snowy north, the news crews would always interview people at the grocery stores buying up those items because the 5 inches of snow could trap them in their house for hours and they may get hungry for bread. Having supplies of potable water on hand might be prudent. I tend to doubt DC will get hit hard (30+ years of experience with only two tropical storms ever pinning me down), but post-Isabelle we appreciated not having to boil water to drink. The family garage houses so many canned goods that I think we could feed the entire neighborhood in event of apocalypse, but that's another matter entirely. How do you think this rates compared to the annual snow panic hoarding? Arggggh! A blizzard approacheth! Maybe!

I think the emergency kit should also include a machete, bat, rifle and chainsaw just in case zombies start appearing before, during or after this possible weakened hurricane. One can never be too careful when it comes to a zombie attack.
