"Capable of rapid buildup and extensive defoliation" are not words one wants to hear with regards to creepy-crawlies.  Sounding the arrival of the bagworm, Flickr user and aspiring helminthologist volcanojw recently spent a prolonged period observing and documenting the larva peeking out of its shell.  Don't be mistaken by their aesthetically pleasing cone-shaped bags...these worms will consume the buds of your arborvitae, cedar and juniper plants and cause branch dieback and open, dead areas.  EXIF.

gross. this sort of reminds me of tree man

hungeegirl - that's exactly what i was thinking about the cocoon! it looks like they are pieces of coniferous leaves but not the needle variety.

"Don't be mistaken by their aesthetically pleasing cone-shaped bags...these worms will consume the buds of your arborvitae, cedar and juniper plants and cause branch dieback and open, dead areas."

For some reason this reminds me of a certain vice presidential nominee...

wtf is up with that 'tree man' guy?

EEEEW. hungeegirl, a warning would have been nice. what is up with that guy?!

i thought having the name tree man would be warning enough :)

ok, so, ahem,

*warning, tree man link might give you the heebie jeebies*

It's actually believed to be caused by a form of HPV wiki

Does anyone know why links sometimes don't work? It's Epidermodysplasia verruciformis.

i hear 'tree man', i expect a picture like this, not like someone covered in barnacles.

yeah, it's some kind of wart. there was a TLC show on him and the doctors that were trying to find a cure for his resemblance to a tree. if i remember correctly, he chose to forgo the treatment and continue to work for a carnival.

Is this picture of treeman before he set forth to destroy the tower of Orthanc?

While extensive defoliation is the type 'kitchen table issue' on voters minds this election year, family values voters may not identify with a name like Epidermodysplasia Verruciformis. A shame though, as many of his general election opponents have still not progressed though the larva stage.

nature's all well and good, until you come face to face with the nasty a** creepy crawlies lurking in every pretty tree and flower.

i

* i less-than-three the indoors.

"Don't be mistaken by their aesthetically pleasing cone-shaped bags..."

Did my ex write this?

Here's a more descriptive link about tree man, with info about his HPV/out-of-freaking-control-warts and all that.
