Man With Rifle, Bomb Detained Near Library of Congress

The Associated Press (via WTOP) is reporting that the incident that closed down the area around the Library of Congress earlier today was that U.S. Capitol Police detained a man who had a rifle and an improvised explosive device in his vehicle. Sounds like we might have another Michael Gorbey on our hands, except, of course, minus one samurai sword.

He supposedly stopped to ask police for directions. Darwin award winner right there. Thankfully he's an idiot and got himself caught.

I asked the other day.. can anyone explain why links sometimes don't work? Is there a trick, or is it just dumb luck.

Here they are, still investigating the van at 3p.

correction - not van. jeep.

I wonder if he was looking for DCist HQ, upset that there's no Overheard in DC today.

i've never had a problem with links. wonder if it's just a case of poor html code on the case of the commenter...

it's not a case of poor HTML. i've been writing code since 1997.

Michael Gorbey got 22 years, Jack Abramoff only got 4 and he hurt a lot more people.

While its great they caught the guy, since he put in the 30 lives code (↑ ↑ ↓ ↓ ← → ← → B A) before he left the house they have to catch him like 29 more times.

rob: sorry, didn't mean to attack your coding skills...just was asking. guess there are bugs there in the commenting system.
