Sept. 11 Ceremonies, Weekend Work to Affect Metro

2008_0909_metrologo.pngDue to security surrounding the dedication of the new Pentagon Memorial on Thursday morning, all Metrobus service that would usually run through the Pentagon Transit Center will be rerouted to Pentagon City. The Center services a good number of bus routes, so if your commute takes you through Northern Virginia on a bus, we'd recommend looking in to some alternate plans on Thursday. Metrorail service at and through the Pentagon station will not be affected.

On to other hindrances — you poor, poor souls on the Yellow Line just cannot swing a weekend off. From 10 p.m. Friday until midnight on Sunday, the bridge over the Potomac River will be closed for Metro's yearly inspection and track maintenance. Metro's got a whole spiel about your options in the press release, but just do yourself a favor and take a Blue Line train to get between Alexandria and points north. Otherwise, your usually simple trip could turn into a rainbowed cornucopia of different colored Metro lines.

Has anyone tried the chocolate pentagon cake at Costco?

I think Metro's plan is to close down sections of the yellow line whenever I have friends visiting from out of town. This way I can continue to entertain them with half-hour delays! Oh well, looks like it's road sodas on the blue line this weekend!

security! security! we must have more security!

because we've forgotten what that word means by now...at least i have

I did try a large chocolate Pentagon at a friend's party a few months ago (not cake, just a large hollow chocolate). I don't know who makes such things, but it was amusing.

I cut into a chocolate Pentagon only to find that it was filled with Booz Allen contractors. Yuck! Worse than a Mounds bar.

They must make great birthday cakes.

I was just thinking that it would be a nice addition to the drinks cart service metro should start. If they are gonna delay you in your best interests, the least they could do is make you comfortable.

Or maybe divert your train to Dick's private underground Space Mountain ride located under Mount Weather.

What additional "security" is really needed there? In addition to the fistfulls of security already in place...? I just don't get it, unless they expect the dedication to turn into some sort of political rally replete with teargas and smashed windows.

You know, come to think of it, I don't think this city is secure enough. I mean, people are still allowed to actually live and work here; think about the security nightmare that presents! Think of the children!

amen, 14thandyou. it would be so much easier to secure this town if we would just get rid of the people.
