Wine Wars?

The ownership of Mendocino Grille will be transferred from Eli Hengst and Jared Rager to Troy Bock, long term general manager and wine director of the restaurant, according to an announcement today. Barry Koslow will stay on as the executive chef. The reason behind the sale was to focus on their other restaurants/wine bars, Sonoma and Redwood. They also have leases signed for spaces on 14th Street and Glover Park where they will go head to head with Cork and Enology, respectively.

speaking of wine wars, does anyone have information about how the ANC meeting on Room 11 (in Columbia Heights) went last night?

I'm not sure why people feel like they need to open a bar on 14th St. Wine has been available at the black cat for 15 years.

Another wine bar (or bars) for 14th St.? Really, I like wine as much as the next guy, and I sometimes even like a relaxed wine bar vibe...but this is getting to be a bit much. Wine bars are clearly the rage right now, but they're quickly becoming as common place in the Logan/Dupont area as "Modern Asian" restaurants in Penn Quarter.

I'll stick with the "wine bar" at the Barrel House parking lot, thank you very much. By which I mean the dumpsters. The service is much less snooty and your server, Smoov B, boasts an impressive knowledge of fortified wines, vodkas, and flavored cigarillos.

And didn't Modern Asian sing "I'll Stop the World and Melt With You?"

That sound you're hearing is my head exploding. Yesterday, Enology is in Cleveland Park. Today it's Glover Park. Guess what? It's neither. It's Cathedral Heights. I'm sorry if that sounds made up, but there you have it.

Why does Ms. Piggy care so much about geography, you ask? Maybe I wasn't hugged as a child. Maybe it's because experimenting with a meatless diet this week means my neurons are feasting on each other.

In any case, I declare myself the official upper NW DC neighborhood boundary queen. My word is law!

I have to agree with Ms. Piggy. Enology is no more Glover Park than it is Cleveland Park. I suppose tomorrow it will be in Spring Valley?

bring one in bloomingdale - md 20/20 and thunderbird are wines too!!

Am I get my ass kicked if I compliment the lipstick on your piggy pic? It's quite fetching!

Wine wars? I guess it's better than crack wars...but not by much.

if caribou barbie can unilaterally declare herself upper NW DC neighborhood boundary queen, then i'm going to go ahead and stake my claim to the title of "wards 1, 2, and 5 neighborhood boundary earl"

bow!

I beg to differ, Enology IS in Cleveland Park...

Is AU now in Cleveland Park also? Can anyone stop the ever-expanding behemoth that is Cleveland Park?

You can beg all you care to, Big L. The fact is that side of Wisconsin is Cathedral Heights, other side is the boundary of Cleveland Park in that part of the neighborhood.

And IMGoph, I recognize your authority. Maybe we can team up in a quasi-benevolent ward dynasty.
