Morning Roundup: Standing Still Edition
Good morning, Washington. We hope you all got home OK after last night's Metro delay trifecta. Every single Metro line experienced delays Thursday evening thanks to a train malfunction at Eastern Market, a police situation at Brookland station, and the Pentagon Memorial dedication all happening at the same time. The Orange and Blue lines were also delayed early this morning due to a suspicious package near the Stadium-Armory station. It's really too bad that this normally serious Post headline ended up seeming a bit ironic to many commuters this morning.
Voting System Firm Says There Was No Malfunction: The Post has the latest on how and why the early results from Tuesday's primary election included thousands of erroneous votes. Sequoia Voting Systems insisted that there is "absolutely nothing wrong" with their voting system in the District, more or less refuting the DCBOEE's explanation that a single cartridge was defective. DCBOEE spokesperson Dan Murphy has since tweaked his official statement to suggest that human error could have been responsible for such a defect. In addition to the investigation Mayor Fenty asked acting Attorney General Peter Nickles to conduct, D.C. Council Chairman Vincent Gray has since appointed a special council committee to investigate as well.
Briefly Noted: Grand jury indicts Bethesda teen accused of stockpiling weapons ... Vacant hotel catches fire in Alexandria ... Body found on Amtrak train tracks in Va. ... Sunday and evening ridership on Metro jumps significantly.
This Day in DCist: In 2007, we learned that most Washingtonians keep working well past the average retirement age, and in 2006, we were also experiencing some voting glitches.

And Rosslyn was evacuated shortly after 9am. I hope they list the reason in their service disruptions tomorrow.
If I ever see someone leave their bag, I think I am going to start pummeling them. Because either they are 1) a terrorist or 2) stupid. In either case they deserve it.

Who says the hotel wasn't occupied? Just because a place is abandoned doesn't mean people aren't living there. I wouldn't be suprised if forensics experts found the charred remains of Vince Foster's clone. Hillary's done it before and she'll do it again.

Voting "human error" = low-paid, low-skilled election day workers who have no idea what they're doing. Yet we entrust them with our democracy.

honestly, monkey, you make a serious point there with regards to the possibility of the homeless squatting there. here's hoping that this remains as-is, and we find no one was physically harmed by the fire.

"What?"
"'What' ain't no country I ever heard of! They speak English in 'What?'"
"What?"
"ENGLISH, MUTHAF***ER! DO YOU SPEAK IT? IS THAT YOUR MUTHAF***IN BAG?"

FYI -- the hotel fire was NOT in Alexandria. It was in Fairfax County. Hence the fact that FC firefighters responded. Completely different municipalities.
