>> Local Afrofunk band Chopteeth will release their self-titled debut album next week and will celebrate with a show at the Black Cat. Joining them will be Head-Roc, Farafina Kan, and DJ Nitekrawler. $15, 9 p.m.

Sunday:
>> One of the most influential music labels of the 20th Century, Stax Records put out more than its fair share of Southern soul. Recently reinvigorated, the imprint is celebrating its 50th Anniversary with Booker T & the MG's and Eddie Floyd. They'll be at the 9:30 Club. $40, 7 p.m.

>> If you hadn't heard already, Mos Def is going to be in town at the Kennedy Center with his big band. Problem is, the show's sold out and Craiglist is a little scant on tickets. However, Mos' band, the RCDC Experiment, will be performing at Liv as a part of the Black Luv Festival's afterparty. $10 in advance, 10 p.m.

Monday:

During this edition of "In The Artist's Studio" at Busboys and Poets' U Street location, he'll team with North Carolina-based rapper Phonte of Little Brother for the first live performance of songs from their Zo! and Tigallo Love The '80s album (pictured).
