This is a sad story that of course leaves me thinking of the family and friends involved. I'm sorry for there loss. But, to answer the question: When was the last time a group of gay men beat up anybody? Well, the only thing I can think of is this.

Was this in the Shaw area? If it was....man. Those thug kids hanging on the corner like cockroaches. Bill Cosby should make a video about tolerance and give it to all public schools. Do they still teach etiquette in schools these days or manners. We need Ms. Manners. People should be able to have a nice time when they are out. They shouldn't have to worry about the Anacostia kids roaming the streets in G'town or the Rock Throwing kids on N.W.

Everybody is racist and homophobic, blah, blah, blah. When was the last time a group of gay men beat up anybody? In this city, the fact is that some black youth are out of control. Secondly, recall the protests from black churches against BeBar and many other "newcomers" in the area. Thirdly, "community leader" Leroy Thorpe (and friend of Jack Evans) called David Catania a fagot. As I see it, the hate is coming all from one side.

Y'know it's been too long since we had one of these internet slap fights about whether blacks are more homophobic than gays are racist or whether we should just blame the GOP for everything. Strangely enough, I just saw a hilarious video entitled, A Beginner's Guide to "No Homo".

Score points? Jesus. i'm not interested in points. This IS a tragedy. And no, homophobia is not exclusive to any group. However, it personally distresses me that a community/ethnic group subjected to generations of violence and degradation simply because of who THEY ARE would participate in the degradation of another group based only on who THEY ARE. And the cultural penumbra embraced by many (most?) American Blacks tacitly accepts such maliciousness ("No Homo"), as if they play no part in brewing the poisoned stew that occasionally spills out as it did on September 7th. "We have scorned our gay brothers and sisters instead of embracing them." -Barack Obama, speaking at MLK's Ebenezer Baptist Church I guess my personal reaction to this is- no hate crime can ever be an isolated incident. We are all more responsible than we'd like to admit. Myself included.

homophobia infects all US culture. It's not exclusive to one racial or ethnic group. but if you really want to go there, you can start a frank discussion on racism among gay people. this death is tragic. don't try to score points for your silly gain.
