Metro Weekend Delays: Single Tracking Abounds

2008_0919_emarketblurry.jpgAnother weekend, another bunch of Metro maintenance-based delays to report. We suppose we can take solace in the fact that those of you on the Yellow Line are finally getting a much-deserved break this weekend.

Red Line:
Beginning tonight at 10 p.m. through closing on Sunday, trains will be single tracking between the Friendship Heights and Medical Center stations. To assist the flow of rail travel towards D.C., every other train in the direction of Shady Grove will terminate and reverse direction at Friendship Heights.

Orange Line:
Trains will also be single-tracking between the Vienna/Fairfax-GMU and West Falls Church-VT/UVA stations. Similarly to the Red Line work, alternating trains will terminate at West Falls Church and head back in the direction of New Carrollton. This work will take less time though, running only between 8 p.m. on Friday until 10 a.m. Sunday - which should be plenty of time to get you to your brunch date at Eastern Market.

Green Line:
Finally, track maintenance between the Fort Totten and Prince George’s Plaza stations will cause trains to share one track between 8 p.m tonight and 7 a.m. on Sunday, September 21. As a result, Yellow Line trains will terminate at Mt. Vernon Square - so just pretend that it's 2005 again and depend solely on the Green Line to get you to Target.

Metro suggests that you add in an additional 15-20 minutes of travel time if you're going to be riding any of these lines this weekend - we'd also suggest that you use caution in boarding trains blindly. With so many early terminations, you might get stuck having to exit a train and wait for another one, especially if you're heading out to the 'burbs.
