Police Arrest Teen in Adams Morgan Attack
District police arrested a teenager on Thursday in connection with an attack on three gay men in Adams Morgan this summer. The teen's identity has not been released since he is a juvenile. The attack is considered a hate crime, according to a report from the Washington Blade. The MPD's announcement of the arrest -- released as a statement last night -- said the teen is charged with aggravated assault.
The Blade report also stated that the incident garnered some attention in the mainstream media after photos of a beaten Todd Metrokin, one of the victims in the July 13 attack, were published on the blog The New Gay in late August. The other victims' identities have not been released.
Reports indicate that Metrokin and his two friends were at the Pizza Mart when a group of five to six others yelled homophobic epithets at them. As the victims left the restaurant, the assailants followed them and then beat them near 18th Street and Kalorama Road.
In light of this and other recent incidents involving attacks on gay men, including one near Be Bar that resulted in the death of Tony Randolph Hunter, a local chapter of Gays and Lesbians Opposed to Violence (GLOV) has re-formed. GLOV was originally formed in the 1990s and used to publish annual hate crime reports and provide training to police regarding violence against LGBT citizens. Their first meeting was held at the D.C. Center on September 22 with about 50 people in attendance.
A vigil for Tony Randolph Hunter, who died in an attack near gay bar BeBar, was held over the weekend. Photo courtesy thedccenter.

a look at the pictures tells me he should be charged with attempted murder.

glad to hear that the police are closing the case on their end. here's hoping that justice is served in the courts. problem is, juvenile justice in the district is such a mess that this kid will end up back on the streets with nothing more than a slap on the wrist.

"this kid will end up back on the streets with nothing more than a slap on the wrist." Probably!

"GLOV Organizer Chris Farris, an attorney, said GLOV plans to follow the prosecution of the juvenile suspect arrested in the case and will look into the city’s juvenile laws, which prohibit the release of any information about criminal prosecution of juveniles."
Rich: The attack happened at 4:20 A.M.
A minor on the 18th St. Adams Morgan strip with four gay-bashing buddies after 4AM on a Sunday. Why wasn't this person also charged with breaking curfew? Perhaps he was with someone who was over 21 years of age, in which case we might have some 'adult' charged and a name named. If not accompanied by someone over 21 years of age, then the parents are in violation of the Juvenile Curfew Act, and should be charged accordingly. In which case, we get the identities that way, no?

Maybe in addition to the criminal prosecution of the alleged juvenile perpetrator, the victim can sue the kid and/or his family in a civil action?

Where's the Pink Pistols when you need 'em?

Wasn't this the case where the victim actually had one of the attacker's cell phones and a picture on the phone of his attacker? About damn time an arrest was made, especially with evidence like that.

Throw that perp, who is obviously a waste of space, into a set of stocks with a nice basket of rocks nearby.
Also, it's time to start dropping birth control meds from helicopters around the city. Jeez, how difficult can it be?
