Click Click: U.S. Open Cup, The Celebration

Half the fun of winning a trophy in soccer (any sport really) is getting your hands on it, parading around a bit and even planting a kiss on the goods. Last night at RFK was no exception. The team, who were jubilant during the post-game trophy presentation, made a beeline for the far sideline as soon as they could to share in the occasion with the Supporters Groups, still gathered in the stands.

That, for me, is what is so great about attending United games. This team really respects the effort their fans give them each and every home game, and they jumped at the chance to share in the spoils. Here's the visual evidence.

Obviously the United win and celebrations were terrific, but one of the things that made the night were the Charleston fans. A few hundred of them traveled up for the match. Afterwards, they stayed to clap their team off the pitch, and the players actually climbed into the stands to thank them personally for coming. Good scene - I love how soccer players are brought up in a culture where they are expected to thank their fans.

Of course the moronic CSC security guards flipped out and tried to get the players to go back on to the field and keep the fans away from them - to no avail.

if i were to kiss the cup, i'd use full-on tongue.

sluuuuuuuurp!

I went to the game and it was a great match. My favorite was Fred scoring that second goal, only a few minutes after coming off the bench!! Awesome.

Is Crayton's first name actually Patrick, or is that an error?

@Bob

Yep, his name is Louis Crayton. Also of note, he's wearing a Barra Brava jersey.
