Columbia Heights Organic Supermarket Deal Signed?

DCUSAThe Columbia Heights News forum is buzzing today with the rumor that Ellwood Thompson's, an organic supermarket based in Richmond, has finally signed a deal for a location in the DCUSA shopping center at 14th and Irving Streets NW in Columbia Heights. The store has been in talks for many months about the location.

Not so fast, however. When asked today via email if a deal had been signed, Ellwood Thompson's CEO Ryan Youngman told us via email that it was "getting close," but not yet official.

The original comment at Columbia Heights News was from a poster named Melissa, who said a source close to DCUSA told her the deal was signed for an Irving Street spot, it could take at least 6 to 9 months before they open, and they were doing some more build-out like installing an elevator to the parking garage. The full quote is on the Columbia Heights News forum and the New Columbia Heights blog. Calls we made to DCUSA, their leasing and development firms, and the Columbia Heights Development Corporation have not yet been returned.

Ellwood Thompson's has a single location in Richmond, and their angle is to sell items from local farmers and suppliers, organic produce and meat, and products without additives like high-fructose corn syrup.

Another organic grocer is looking to move to the area as well, with a Yes! Organic Market opening at some point soon at 14th and V Streets NW.

seriously?

you did a whole post for this?

andrew, i love your blog and what-not, but you're posting a rumor, that is a follow up on another rumor, perpetrated by "melissa".

when it becomes official, by all means, run with it, but this is just kinda silly...

Before anyone starts whinging about $3.00 cucumbers remember: its not what you pay for the cucumber that matters, its what you do with it..

Yes! has been 'coming this spring' to 14th & V since February. I'm not holding my breath about that one.

I'd rather a store like MOM's be there. It's more practical and less chic.

High fructose corn syrup may have a complicated-sounding name, but it's actually a simple sweetener, made from corn, that is nutritionally the same as sugar.

High fructose corn syrup is not sweeter than sugar; and high fructose corn syrup, sugar and honey all contain the same number of calories (four calories per gram).

Like table sugar and honey, high fructose corn syrup contains no artificial or synthetic ingredients or color additives.

Consumers can see the latest research and learn more about high fructose corn syrup at www.HFCSfacts.com and www.SweetSurprise.com.

Wow as if the TV ads aren't enough, the corn mafia has hired internet prowlers to spread the corn propaganda through the internet tubes. Beware of the children/Farmers/lobbyists of the corn!
