Primary Election Results

UPDATE 10:49 p.m. With all of the races now decided, we're calling it a night. You can continue to follow the minutiae of the last few precinct results as they come in at the DCBOEE's snazzy new election results web site.

UPDATE 10:29 p.m.: Those murky D.C. Democratic State Committee races are a bit of mixed bag, but the major seats appear to have gone largely for the status quo: all but one of the candidates running in the Anita Bonds-led Obama for Change slate appears to have won, with the other establishment slate, Obama for DC, winning most of the rest. There are a few exceptions, including a spot for Kenneth B. Ellerbee of the Obama4UnityBeatsMcCain slate as an at-large committeeman, and in the Ward spots things didn't break down very neatly across slate lines at all, and in fact not every slate even ran candidates in each ward.

UPDATE 10:15 p.m.

D.C. Council At-large [GOP] -- The Washington City Paper is reporting that Carol Schwartz has already conceded to challenger Patrick Mara, even though we think it's still just a tad too early to call it based on the tally. With 134 precincts out of 143 reporting, Mara leads with 3,710 versus Schwartz's 2,976. Still, since Schwartz has conceded, we're going ahead and calling the election for Mara at this point.

UPDATE 9:56 p.m. With 134 precincts now reporting, we can begin to call winners in several more races.

Shadow Senator [Dem] -- Incumbent Paul Strauss is the projected winner with 134 precincts reporting. Strauss currently has 21,713 votes versus 11,881 for challenger Philip Pannell, so Strauss is leading 61 percent to Pannell's 33 percent.

D.C. Council Ward 2 [Dem] -- With 13 of Ward 2's 14 precincts reporting, we're projecting that incumbent Jack Evans has prevailed over challenger Cary Silverman. Evans currently leads with 48 percent of the vote versus Silverman's 34 percent.

D.C. Council Ward 4 [Dem] -- With all 20 of Ward 4's precincts reporting, Muriel Bowser has won re-election by a huge margin, with 75 percent of the vote (6,499 votes).

D.C. Council Ward 7 [Dem] -- With 21 of Ward 7's 24 precincts reporting, Yvette Alexander is the projected winner, with a current lead of 66 percent of the vote versus closest challenger Robin Hammond Marlin currently with 24 percent of the vote.

D.C. Council Ward 8 [Dem] -- Incumbent Marion Barry is the winner with all 16 of Ward 8's precincts reporting. Barry has 4,101 votes, or 77 percent of the vote, to closest challenger Charles Wilson's 584, with only 11 percent.

UPDATE 9:29 p.m.: OK! Here we go. So far with 19 percent of the vote counted (27 precincts out of 143), all of the incumbents in the D.C. Council races are well ahead of their challengers with the exception of the GOP At-large race: right now, Patrick Mara is leading Carol Schwartz 62 percent to 38 percent.

It's still too early to call any of the contested races until more precinct results come in, so stay tuned.

The polls closed at 8 p.m., and as of 8:35 p.m. the D.C. Board of Elections and Ethics isn't reporting any results. But since many of the races are unopposed, DCist Election Central can go ahead and predict the following results:

U.S. Delegate [Dem] -- Eleanor Holmes Norton (D) is the winner of this uncontested primary race.

Shadow Representative [Dem] -- Mike Panetta (D) is the winner of this uncontested primary race.

Shadow Senator [GOP] -- Nelson Rimensnyder (R) is the winner of this uncontested primary race.

D.C. Council At-large [Dem] -- Kwame Brown (D) is the winner of this uncontested primary race.

D.C. Council Ward 2 [GOP] -- Christina Culver (R) is the winner of this uncontested primary race.

We'll update as soon as the DCBOEE releases results from the District's 143 precincts.
