Street Collapses in Upper Northwest

The Associated Press is reporting that a section of the 4300 block of Ellicott Street NW, several blocks away from Fort Reno Park, has suddenly collapsed. Fire officials are investigating. An estimated 20-foot section of the road has caved in about 2 feet. Apparently a DDOT crew had been collecting tree debris in a department truck on the block at the time of the collapse. Two men on the crew were taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

As is no doubt obvious, it would be wise to avoid this area until further notice.

A pig hoven has collapsed - they were shopping for lipstick at the time.

I blame AU students, they're idiots, it has to be their fault somehow.

Cherchez la CHUD. Don't you people get tired of saying that?

I suppose it's just a coincidence that this so-called "street collapse" happens mere blocks away from a documented locus of arsenic-eating morlock activity, Ft. Reno Park. How many more street collapses and Metro tunnel fires is it going to take before we get serious and have Thomas the Tank engine round up these albino bastards and put them in camps?

I did go to a lot of parties at a fraternity house right around there. But that was quite a few years ago. Maybe all the beer everyone spilled had something to do with it? Isn't alcohol slowly corrosive?

why were you spilling beer and not drinking it...

When you're running from cops when you're underage, it's tough not to spill it.

Put the beer down dude, there will be more beer later.

this thread is useless without Pics!!!!!!!!

Black Hole in Switzerland = Street collapse in Tenleytown. Seems pretty straight forward.

@ Big L: I agree. How does a street -- which is located on the ground, after all -- collapse? Buildings collapse. Bridges collapse. Housing markets collapse. But streets tend to sort of erode, or become giant potholes. Is this like a sink hole? Need input.

Oh snap that's right where I parked my car this morning.

How sad is it that the first thing I thought of was CHUD. AND I come here and 30 people have beaten to the punch. Wow.

CHUD, je t'aime.

I drove down that block this morning, glad they waited to collapse it 'til later...

wow, and the underground infrastructure out there isn't nearly as old as in the l'enfant city...can't wait to see some pictures...

I'll be the first and only person to make an "emergence hole" joke. Anyone have an emergency chainsaw lancer on them?
