Suspicious Letter at Dept. of Veterans Affairs

A Hazmat team has responded to what's being described as a suspicious letter opened at the Deptartment of Veterans Affairs, located at 810 Vermont Ave. NW. There is a large police and EMS presence extending around McPherson Square, Lafayette Square and the White House as a result of the investigation.

The letter is reportedly being tested for signs of anthrax as a precautionary measure. A decontamination tent has been set up, and ten employees in the mailroom were isolated after the letter was reported to authorities.

The McPherson Square Metro station is currently closed due to the investigation. Metro says shuttle buses are being sent to the location.

UPDATE 1:17 p.m.: The suspicious letter has been given the all-clear as posing no threat, and the Metro station has since reopened.

Lots of jumpy people lately - more so than usual - here's hoping it's yet another over-reaction.

On second thought, this reaction sounds pretty standard. But I have noticed lots of people jumping at loud noises and speculating out loud about possible terror connections to everyday events.

Clearly, there are hot dogs that blowing up.

Word from our office manager is that McPherson Sq Metro is now open again (130pm-ish)

we're not philly, clevelandrocks. we have explosive half smokes here, not hot dogs.

Wait until they find my suspicious Hallmark kwanzaa card.

They spelled "kwanzaa" wrong in three separate places and it's riddled with explitives. If that's not suspicious, I'm a shotten herring.

While military service is undoubtedly stressful and may lead to relationships conducted outside of marriage, I hardly see the need for a federal agency to regulate it.

Have you forgotten who's president boondoggle?
