>> Highly regarded saxophonist Sadao Watanabe, one of the first Japanese jazz musicians to garner international acclaim, pays a visit to Blues Alley this Friday and Saturday with 8 and 10 p.m. sets. >> D.C. native and journeyman drummer Steve Williams spent 25 years backing legendary vocalist Shirley Horn. Now based in New York, Williams returns to his hometown this weekend for Friday and Saturday night performances with his own quartet at Bohemian Caverns. Tickets to the 9 and 11 p.m. sets are $15.

>> It's a night of electronic-infused music this Sunday at the Bossa Bistro & Lounge. Recent Three Stars pick The Oscillators will host a CD release party for their album, Beat Tectonics, at 6:30 p.m. At 9:30 p.m. Drop Electric, whose tragedy we recently reported, will perform. If that's not enough music for you, stick around to see Three Stars alum Will Rast perform with Inner Loop at 11 p.m.

>> In addition to being chosen as an Artist-in-Residence at Strathmore, local saxophonist John Kocur has perfromed with the likes of James Brown alum Fred Wesley, local legend Buck Hill, and NEA jazz master Benny Golson. He will lead his own quartet on Sunday at Twins Jazz. Call 202-234-0072 for set time and cover information.

>> Fans of contemporary jazz should check out the Night Moves Project on Sunday at Blues Alley. The local group adds a Latin flavor to the standard R&B influenced smooth jazz vibe. Tickets to the 8 and 10 p.m. sets are $18 + $12.50 minimum/surcharge.

>> Blues Alley hosts two CD release parties next week by respected local musicians. On Monday, keyboardist Elliot Levine will celebrate the release of Live +7. Vocalist Bobbe Shore plays on Tuesday to showcase her new album with the help of an excellent rhythm section, comprised of pianist Wade Beach, bassist Steve Novosel, and drummer Tony Martucci. Tickets to Levine's show are $18 while tickets to Shore's concert are $20. Of course, the standard $12.50 minimum/surcharge applies to both nights. 8 and 10 p.m. sets.

Is it possible that these events could be listed and highlighted by day?

You do this for This Week in Music, why not This Week in Jazz?

I don't do that for TWIJ because jazz acts often play multiple days at clubs. I tried the other way of listing, but it wasn't any less confusing.

September is shaping up to be a solid month in music for the district.

Thanks for this
