Nader Burned Nats, WaPo

2008_1001_nader.jpgVia Notions Capital, a weeks-old Politico story we missed contains a tidbit about a funny exchange said to have taken place between perennial fringe presidential candidate and consumer advocate Ralph Nader and the Washington Post editorial board.

Nader recounted a recent meeting with editors at The Washington Post, who he said told him the paper wasn’t covering his campaign because he had no chance of winning. According to Nader, he replied: “Then why are you covering the Nationals?” a reference to Washington’s long-suffering baseball team.
Ouch. We'd counter by arguing that the Nats stood at least a chance of being competitive this past season, but who are we kidding.

They've been here for what, three years? Long-suffering my ass.

(/cubs fan)

Excellent. Nader just got my vote!

Jesus - even King of the Nerds Ralph Nader is busting on the Nats. That team is being trampled by a herd of elephants this year. Much of it by their own doing, I should mention.

yeah, sorry, you can't defend the nats. they are teh suck.

There's a Fringe party? can i write them in?

Oh, snap! "Pwned by Nader" is what the Nats Jerseys should say.

That is a witty line.

But Nader is nuts. His appearance on the Bill Maher show shows just how far into nutsville he has slid. He did everything but foam at the mouth. True, his positions have some merit, but he himself has become a bit deranged.

And I blame every single one of you dipshits that voted for him in 2000 for giving that election to Bush.

The chances that all the MLB teams, except for the Nats, falling deathly ill and the team winning the pennant by default is still significantly higher than this clown getting elected to anything that has more responsiblity than "water this daily." What a loser!

Oh Nader, us widely hated, perpetual losers need to stick together! Don't go busting on the Nats, they- just like you, keep striving against all human and supernatural forces to do something that is relatively meaningless.

C'mon Nader. Cheap shot. You want to win votes? Get the cheap ass bastards to pay rent on the damn stadium, and THEN we'll talk!

Who's that he's holding in the picture? Is Kucinich his new running mate?

Washington Nationals - The Ralph Nader of the MLB

Ironic that Nader has lived in DC for decades, yet maintains residence out-of-state so that he can vote for congressional representation (and pay lower taxes).

Cranky, I can't begin to tell you how tempted I am to do that too.

Washington Nationals - The Ralph Nader of the MLB

Which would make the Mets Al Gore... and the Phillies George W. Bush. Sounds about right.

Does Ralph Nader read the Post? They don't cover the Nationals either.

So I guess this would be evidence that Ralph Nader is a Nats fan.

oh snap!! girlfriends still got it!

How old is that london fog of his?

"And I blame every single one of you dipshits that voted for him in 2000 for giving that election to Bush."
Oh, whatever.
I voted for him in 2000 in oh-so-safe DC (he more than doubled Bush's vote in my precinct.)
Funny story: I saw him at the poles in 2004 (he was walking by, I was working them) and he said "if DC had any sense they'd elect Catania for Mayor". My reply was "Thanks, Ralph, by the way I voted for you in 2000".

he's holding Flat Stanley
