Hmmm ... Hizzoner's mishap is suspicious timed to coincide roughly with Metro's new funding bill.
Any bets on whether there will be an allegation that somehow a Metrobus was responsible?

So no mention of the shooting in Adams Morgan this weekend? It was a pretty big deal.

No kidding! Not even a mention in any of the traditional news sources. Seriously, with all of its "gentrification" and whatnot, Adams Morgan is a lot scarier now than when I moved in 12 years ago.

Well of course there was no mention of the shooting in Adams Morgan because there was no "I rushed to the scene" email from CM Grahamstander.
What was learned tonight at the ANC Public Safety Meeting (where CM Grahamstander and his entourage seemed to forget the meeting wasn't about them, but about residents) is that s 6-7 shot were fired from the SunTrust alley down onto (into) 18th Street. To give you some perspective, a light at Madam's Organ was hit by a bullet. No one has been arrested and honestly MPD isn't really sure what brought on the whole incident.
Several eyewitnesses report some odd behavior in this incident including that few witnesses were questioned by MPD and that what appeared to be a Secret Service detail, with MPD support quickly fled the scent.
I'll leave the speculation to all you Oliver Stone's out there, but a combination of all the eyewitness reports and the lack of media attention is just a little odd, to say the least.
But MPD has promised more patrols in Adams Morgan, not only on 18th Street, but throughout the entire neighborhood and I'm sure they will be good for the word till the crime statistics for October come out, showing that crime is down and then they will focus their attention elsewhere.

The brown line would make a lot more sense if instead of running between Gallery Place/Chninatown and Ft Totten they ran it along the red line instead.

Is that title a reference to that David MacAulay book? I've still got a copy for when I need to remind myself about the difference between fission and fusion; which is surprisingly often.

When I lived in Adams Morgan 1997-2000, I recall gunpoint muggings, periodically hearing gunfire from my group house, etc.; also, I vaguely recall a gang-related triple homicide/triple shooting at one point on a weekend night in the middle of the 18th street strip.
I'm not sure how the violent crime stats compare over those years, but I recall the neighborhood being fairly risky 10 or so years ago, as well.

@ Thom202
Such a connection isn't possible. The only existing Blue to Red connection is near McPherson Square, and even then it's a one way connection going the wrong way to connect up to Totten.

I'm not saying it was perfectly safe 10-15 years ago, just that I've noticed a lot more activity recently. Of course, 10-15 years ago I was probably more oblivious and naive to it all. I just know that I didn't used to worry about random violence when going out on 18th Street on a Friday or Saturday night. Now it's almost expected that there will be some kind of stupidity taking place, and that's the last place I want to be.
And just on an anecdotal level, I have noticed a lot more sirens at all hours of the day and night - this weekend it seemed to be non-stop.

That's frightening - I shudder to think what could have happened given how busy that area is on a Saturday night. I heard (not sure if it's accurate) that one person was shot in the leg. Amazing that that's all that happened.
It is very curious that this has not been in the news.

The worst thing about that picture? The little 'no parking' icon in the top right.

The worst thing about that picture is that the meter is telling you not to pee on it. Well, I don't truck with machines telling me where to micturate. [unzips, pees on meter] Ever thus with deadbeats, Lebowski. See? See what happens, Lebowski?

I hung out in Adams Morgan as a teen from 1995-1998, and I don't remember it being that dangerous. I mean, you had to be aware, but there wasn't anything like the violence we hear about these days, at least on the main strip. I think the violence has increased exponentially in just the past 3-4 years. But I haven't really been anywhere but Meskerem in that time period.
