Think the Philadelphia Phillies are the only story in Pennsylvania this week? Think again. Both John McCain and Barack Obama are braving the torrential downpour that forced umpires to call the Phillies-Rays World Series baseball game on Monday night. Election Day is the temporary finish line for the weary candidates, but for the winner, that’s merely the first signpost on a great marathon. Morning rallies by McCain/Palin and Obama (where’s Biden?) were attended by thousands, McCain in Hershey and Obama spreading his message to the open-eared at Widener University outside Philadelphia. McCain says he’ll fight on, despite what the polls and pundits predict, Palin defends the attack mentality the GOP has taken against Obama/Biden and Obama maintains that McCain will bring America “more of the same,” straight from the George W. Bush menu. For those of us who have ever used quick loans, that more of the same just might mean that they will still be available, that we will hold on to that much of our financial freedom. Under a Democratic president and dominant Democratic Congress, we may not have that choice. Maybe other Philly fans can back me up, but the coverage has been atrocious. It's like the Phillies don't exist. The other day, the lead story was one ANTICIPATING the upcoming game with the Red SAWKS, and five stories down was the dramatic Phils victory for the go-ahead on the series. Same thing with game 4. Pardon the Interruption had Kurkjian on 5 good minutes today, and it was 4:40 on the red sox game, and 20 seconds to discuss what a tv ratings let down it would be if the Phillies and Rays made the world series. I am actually starting to get extremely agitated. Oh, and Joe Buck is a moron, we can all agree on that. All he knows how to say is how many batters from now (if they all get on base) the teams are from bringing the tying or go-ahead run to the plate. Thanks for that hypothetical, Joe. How about telling me what's going on RIGHT NOW?

Caribou Barbie, I'm pretty sure that the starbucksgossip and hungry girl websites reported that the sandwiches were being kept after all, so it might just be the store near you that doesn't carry them. If you're downtown, just try the next nearest store - that will take you maybe an extra block out of your way, right?

The scrapple-and-egg-on-toasted-Wonder-Bread at the corner breakfast bodega has always been a barometer of the local economy. I did my senior seminar paper on it. Kinda like the S&P/Case-Schiller Indice report, except more heart-attack-inducing.

Why is DCist overlooking the real news story of the day? My local Starbucks has stopped selling egg breakfast sandwiches. Sure, sure, corporate announced months ago this was coming, but then it never did and I think we all assumed they recognized it for the bad idea it was and would keep those delicious eggish things around. Farewell, eggs florentine. You can be sure if DCist is covering up your demise in some sort of free latte refill bribery deal, I will not rest until the whole world knows of this shame.

It's a slippery slope. Once the bad guys start actually wearing hats, they'll have to start accesorizing. They'll start wearing black cowboy outfits, then they'll grow curly Snidely Whiplash moustaches, then they'll develop diabolical laughs. Once they've gotten that far, it's only a matter of time before they recruit talking dog sidekicks and burly henchmen dressed in identical leotards. The one saving grace will be that mild-mannered librarian Barbara Gordon will be jetting around town on her Batcycle and dispensing busty, tight-bootied justice.

Fox's sports coverage in general would be a heck of a lot better if they just dialed down all the extreme closeups of athletes and fans. It's all an attempt to create a sense of drama and it just comes off as annoying. If the game has actual drama, it will be noticeable. Go back and watch coverage of playoffs from the 80s you'll see the games weren't any less dramatic just because they didn't have the camera looking right up the nose of Don Mattingly or Mike Schmidt.

WTF is it with all the hatless robbery suspects? Can't the police just round up everyone without a hat so we can finally be safe from the big bad rabbit? You better believe Lanier and Fenty already have a contingency plan based on this concept. Call Jim Graham right now and urge the Council to pass the emergency legislation that will provide low-income residents with tax credits for tuques, homburgs, and porkpies.

As to be expected with WJLA, they got a lot of the details wrong. There were a string of robberies recently in the Tenley/North Cleveland Park area wereby an SUV drives up and blocks a biker's path and two men hop out of the car with guns and rob the biker. It apparently involves two hatless hispanic males in their mid-20s. The police apparently arrested one man over the weekend that they think might be involved, but it's not clear yet whether he was or was not hatless.
