i'm not sure it's particularly relevant whether they're "murals" or not-- more important is whether they look good, and I'd say, aesthetically, they're very cool. but i, too, am uneasy about big obama faces looking down all over the city. could become very 'big brother' very quickly.

So question... Is he just putting up stuff BORF style or does he get permission from the building owners first? I for one wouldn't be too pleased if my freshly painted Marvin building was suddenly tagged with some "legitimate" political graffiti. Voting for the guy or not.

I haven't quite made up my mind on Fairey's work overall, but calling a bunch of posters wheatpasted onto a wall in a grid pattern a "mural" is a serious stretch. Does that make all those repeated album and movie posters that get pasted onto construction walls downtown "murals" also?

i have a couple pictures of the one that jaime mentioned on the west side of logan hardware. couldn't read what it said at the bottom of obama's face, but i'm guessing it's also "progress". you'd need to go up on the whole foods roof parking lot to read it easily.

it's funny, i've felt strange about all the obama stuff too. hell, i'm voting for the guy, and pray he wins. but there is a bit of a cult of personality to all of this that we'd mock the shit out of if it were the north koreans doing this. and, if he were to lose, well, there'd be a lot of places where egg-on-the-face would be the rule of the day.

The OBEY poster is on the side of the abandoned Mt. Pleasant supermarket. I have my doubts about its authenticity given how much cooler these others are....

Am I the only one who thinks all these Obama murals are going to look silly in three weeks (or hell even now, knowing he's probably going to win) after the election? It's then that they become less of a unofficial campaign booster and more of a kind of creepy "watchful eye" thing - at least to me.

Don't know if it's Fairey, but there appears to be some new work (an Obama portrait) on the Vision Lighting building (300 Vine Street NW) against the Metro tracks, just before the Takoma Station. Wasn't there for last night's commute.

there's another further down the alley on the side of logan hardware, and one that's just barack on the high wall of logan hardware (facing west) above cvs.
