Free Bike Light Giveaway Tonight

2008_1023_freelight.jpgThe Washington Area Bicyclist Association and the District Department of Transportation will be handing out free bike lights to cyclists again tonight, just like they did last year. The giveaway is part of the “Got Lights?” bicycle safety and education campaign that coincides with the time of year when it begins to get darker out much earlier.

DDOT and WABA will give out 300 free front and rear bike light sets tonight, along with copies of the Safe Bicycling in the Washington Area guide and other safety literature. D.C. law requires cyclists to have a front white light and rear red reflector (or even better, a rear red light) when riding in the dark.

There are two locations where you can pick up a free set of bike lights this evening: Beginning at 4:30 p.m., stop by Suntrust Plaza at the corner of 18th St. and Columbia Rd. NW, or the Shrine of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church near 16th St. and Park Rd. NW (3211 Pine St NW).

If you miss out tonight, WABA and DDOT will host a second round of giveaways on October 28 at the same locations.

woo hoo, free stuff!

IMGoph, do you even own a bike? Or are you a freebie lover? :)

i own two bikes, and have lights for one of them.

If only I was in DC to collect on this.

* must have a bike present to get a light.
* one light per person
* no lights for you if you currently have one on your bike
* if you have a white light, yes, we can break a set and hook you up with a red and vice versa.
*hardware included in sets
* we have volunteers on site who can help install if you need help.

BE SEEN. BE SAFE.

How late will they be handing out lights?

That's a pretty sweet Thomson stem on that ride...

I believe they will be there until they run out. Yay free stuff!

just hope they have some up until 6 pm!

What I really need is some kind of anti-theft kit for my bike lights.
