Absentee Ballot Problem Reported to DCBOEE

2008_1024_ballot.jpgThe D.C. Republican Committee sent around word late yesterday that a registered Republican living in Ward 2 was mailed an absentee ballot that is missing candidates and includes a candidate from another Ward.

Take a close look at the ballot at right. This voter lives in single-member district 2F03, but the ballot includes the Ward 6 school board seat instead of the Ward 2 spot, and is also missing the Ward 2 D.C. Council member race.

WTOP's Mark Segraves was all over the story yesterday (City Desk picked it up, too), nabbing a quote from Ward 2 Council member Jack Evans describing this ballot as "illegal."

The D.C. Board of Elections and Ethics said it has only received this one complaint from a voter who was sent an incorrect ballot, but with only a little over a week until an election expected to see record voter turnout, the fact that a ballot with these kinds of errors was mailed out is seriously troubling.

Eek! A Republican residing in DC! Eek!

not cool, DCBOEE. i'm glad i live in Virginia.

Why is it whenever I see Nader's name on an election ballot, my sphincter clentches shut with an audible "SNAP"?

Is that REALLY McCain/Palin checked off on a DC ballot? Is this one of the seven signs?

DC has weird looking absentee ballots. Fill in the arrow? WTF? What's wrong with a regular old multiple choice circle?

Whackety schmackety dooooooo!

Monkey, you just gave me a great idea for a donkeypunch variant! Do you mind if I call it a "monkeypunch," or would you rather I call it a "PunchNaderForPresidentPunch?"

(Or are both names too easily confused with a junkpunch? Decisions, decisions.)

Is McCain automatically checked on each DC Republican absentee ballot? If so, I'm braving the polls.

As a matter of fact, I've been using the term "nader" to describe that post-coital scattershot-urine effect when your pee goes in multiple directions, none of which involve actually going into the toilet.

Kinda like "santorum" but for Number Ones.

monkeyerotic- love it!

I'm shocked at the number of ballots DC has to produce every election because of their crazy precinct and ANC structure. I'm sure there are well over 200 different ballots being sent out. Anyone know the exact number of different ballots produced for our fair city?

well, tomaloisi, you can go here, click on each ANC, and count up the number of SMDs.

i would guess that would give you the number of different ballots.

this does not bode well for the down-ballot races being figured out properly. especially if they have errors in ward 2, expect some fireworks in anc2c!

The headline for this post should be "Someone in DC is voting for McCain!"
