Suspected Robber Caught After Leaving Thumb Behind

The crazy crime story of the day award goes to the Examiner's Scott McCabe, who lays out the rather unbelievable tale of a suspected armed robber who held up an alleged brothel in upper Columbia Heights earlier this month. The robber got away with a bunch of cash, but was later caught by police because, get this, they had his thumb.

The suspect, Bryan Perez, 22, had his thumb cut off during a struggle with one of the robbery victims, so police were eventually able to locate him thanks to the missing digit, which fit "like a puzzle piece.” You know it's quite a story when the headline isn't, "Holy Cow There's a Big Brothel in Upper Columbia Heights."

The location of the brothel/gambling house was 3827 14th St. NW, just below Randolph.
