>> Three Stars alum John Lee, one of the area's best and busiest guitarists, will be leading his own group tonight at Utopia. Joining him will be drummer Dave McDonald, bassist Andrew Cox, and fellow Three Stars alum, Matt Rippetoe, on saxophone. 9 p.m. No cover

>> Tonight at Blues Alley, vibraphonist Chuck Redd leads the Statesmen of Jazz, a group representing a non-profit organization more than 40 of the world's greatest jazz artists whose mission is to increase exposure and understanding of jazz through live performances, clinics and workshops. Tonight's ensemble includes Mikey Roker on drums, Houston Person on sax, Bob Cranshaw on bass, and Tamir Hendleman on piano. Tickets to the 8 and 10 p.m. sets are $25 + $12.50 minimum/surcharge.

>> Smooth jazz mainstays, The Rippingtons, will take residence at Blues Alley this weekend with 8 and 10 p.m. sets on Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday. Tickets are $45 + $12.50 minimum/surcharge.

>> Saxophonist Brad Linde pays tribute to the classic jazz of the 50s on Thursday night at Twins Jazz. His five horn nonet features the compositions of Tadd Dameron, Gigi Gryce, Elmo Hope, Oscar Pettiford and others. Call 202-234-0072 for set time and cover information.

>> HR-57 will host regular Antonio Parker on Friday. 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. $12.

>> Jazz Night in Southwest will host a Halloween Bash this Friday. The band will include drummer Nasar Abadey, pianist Allyn Johnson, and bassist James King. 6 to 9 p.m. $5

>> Local trumpeter Kenny Rittenhouse will spend this weekend at Twins Jazz, supporting his latest release, The Francis Suite. On Friday, his band will include all-star pianist Allyn Johnson and Saturday's show will feature Three Stars alum Reginald Cyntje. Tickets to the 9 and 11 p.m. sets are $15.

>> Vaughn Nark is a technical wizard on his instrument. The former lead trumpeter of the famed Air Force Airmen of Note will lead his own group through 8 and 10 p.m. sets at Blues Alley next Monday. Tickets are $18 + $12.50 minimum/surcharge.
